Thunderbird Portable

New item notification

Submitted by CarlosAF on August 16, 2006 - 5:08pm

I've just started using Portable Thunderbird and things are going fairly well.

It's a little slower than I'd like, but that could be just the old drive I'm using for the time being.

One thing that isn't working is the notification that Thunderbird puts next to folders that have new items within. In 'Desktop Thunderbird' the little satellite dish is highlighted with an orange star whenever there are new unread items within a folder. In Pocket Tbird, the change only happens once I click on a folder. That is, I get the 'highlighted' state, but only after clicking the folder, which otherwise looks like all the others.

Duplicate files?

As I only have a 2GB stick, and intend using portable app.s to do most of my sensitive work from hereon in, I am a little obsessive about space. Running a check for duplicate files (identical CRCs), I found around 14MB of them on my stick already. Here's a shot listing some of the biggest:

Is there a safe way to remove some of these, to maximise space on my stick?

Removing local downloaded email

Submitted by lazyart on August 15, 2006 - 7:44pm

I have TB set to download headers only and I pick the messages I want to view manually.

Once they've been downloaded, it there a way to keep the mail on the server but remove the body from TB? This would be handy to keep our mailbox size reigned in on a limited size flash drive. It also speeds up the encryption process before I disconnect my media...

Accounts AWOL

Submitted by spartacusroosevelt on August 14, 2006 - 2:29pm

I have been having the same problem as this guy. So I downloaded the ini, made sure the two settings were false and saved it in the same dir as PortableThunderbird.exe. I still get no accounts showing in PT. So I deleted the LocalFolders-1 directory PT has created and tried again, still with the ini in the folder. Still no boxes.

Suggestions?

Copying settings

Submitted by jmreid on August 14, 2006 - 1:39am

I have set up Thunderbird for U3 and have copied the profile as directed in support but the settings, address book etc don't appear.
Same with Firefox as well. I copied them from my Hard drive but they don't appear when I restart the program

Offline problem - deletes content of sync folders

Submitted by michal-zajic on August 11, 2006 - 7:27am

Hi all,
using Portable TB version 1.5.0.5 (20060719) - installed as Portable but with automatic updates (if any) on my Flash device

I have twi IMAP accounts set up for OffLine sync and when I
1) hit File -> Offline -> Work Offline to sync
2) correctly remove Flash and move it to my home Laptop with no internet connection at all
3) run TB for the first time

it actually runs well

BUT when I close down TB and try to run it next time all content of my IMAP accounts is gone and I can see only inbox.

even I can see I have some content in IMAP folder on my flash, i cannot see it from TB

Upgrading from 1.0 to 1.5

Submitted by lazylook on August 10, 2006 - 10:02pm

I have thunder 1.0 on my usb and I want to upgrade, but when I move the profile over to PTData nothing happens. The data is not imported.

the PT that I have now 1.0 looks like I moved a PC copy over to my USB.
The only folder that I have in the 1.0 is thunderbird
Inside thunderbird is the .exe /chrome /components /dfaults /extentions /greprefs /PortableThunderbird /profile /res

When I move this /profile over the the new PTdata, then open the 1.5 exe nothing is in there.

PTB on PDA

Submitted by phogi on August 8, 2006 - 1:05pm

Hi,

Can PTB run on any PDA? If so, which platforms? I was hoping to run Thunderbird on my Palm but that seems to be impossible at the moment, and users are left to synchronizing TB with whatever mail client they have on their PDAs.
