Adding Lightening extension to Thunderbird

Submitted by jojothehobo on July 22, 2013 - 5:53pm

Hi:
I have Mozilla Thunderbird installed on my PortableApps platform. It works fine as an email client. I set up my email client and it gave me a lot of useful options and control.

However, it is just an email program. There seems to be no way to add extensions like Lightening or do anything else. I must be missing something here and would appreciate it if someone can clarify why my application is so limited.
Thanks
Jojo

Usage of the IMAP protocol

In another thread I reported from my problems, which me encountered during the usage of the IMAP protocol. In the meantime I searched for a solution regarding the handling of the IMAP protocol. For a better overview I have decided me for the creation of this new thread.

The following short tutorial should bring a little bit more enlightenment in the darkness of the IMAP protocol.

New Thunderbird crashes on opening

Submitted by ikbol on June 28, 2013 - 10:59am

I can open my new Portable Thunderbird - but it more or less immediately crashes.

This is mainly why:

it took my existing email account info. and rather than linking to xxx@blueyonder.co.uk directly, linked to it via my virgin/gmail account. Virginmedia supplies my blueyonder account, and holds all my email on gmail, (accessible via a browser), as well as supplying it to the email prog. on my computer.

That meant Thunderbird immediately downloaded *40,000* old emails from gmail, and not just the latest handful.

Summary files always being rebuilt

Submitted by darkstar on May 29, 2013 - 4:15pm

Why is it that whenever I move my USB disk drive (containing all my PortableApps, including Portable Thunderbird v17.0.6) from one computer to another, I always have to go through all my folders and rebuild the summary files? This is tedious (I have a LOT of folders) time consuming and a real annoyance. That is because I HAVE to have the summary files rebuilt before I can download new email from my server and SEE what new messages came in.

Thunderbird 17.x drive issues

Desc: TB starts and runs normally, but is not able to connect to any IMAP mail. it is not able to send mail via SMTP nor download the mail from IMAP server (including already recieved mails from inbox)

It does work when the drive letter is E: but does not when G:

I have encountered following issue with ThunderbirdPortable 17.x versions

When running on various system where external medium (onto which TB portable is installed) has different letter assigned, TB does only work on one drive letter assigned (E:).
