Thunderbird Portable

migrating Thunderbird

Submitted by Boris on March 25, 2014 - 4:12pm

I have run Thunderbird portable for some years now without issue. I have about 20 email addresses and 3 years worth of emails. It lives on an external drive.
Recently my laptop died and I luckily had not long backed up to the external drive.
I've got my new laptop now however when I click to start Thunderbird it acts as if it is a new program, with no record of my emails, my accounts or anything. What am I doing wrong?

SMTP authentication problem

Submitted by ratcatcher on March 13, 2014 - 12:43pm

I routinely use two SMTP servers with authentication. Passwords are stored in TB so I'm not prompted for them when sending.

Recently, on a few occasions, a box has popped up telling me that sending has failed and inviting me to retry or enter the password. Knowing that the password is correct, I've generally selected retry - which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't (if it doesn't I usually abandon the attempt for a while).

BCC not sent

Submitted by ratcatcher on March 13, 2014 - 12:34pm

I wonder if anyone else has experienced this:

I have all of my identities within TB configured to place a copy of sent emails in the "Sent" folder and also to BCC the sender email address. This has been the case for literally years. I've made no configuration changes at all for a year or more.

Recently I've noticed that some sent emails are not BCCd back to me. If I look at copies in the "Sent" folder, they normally show that the email has been BCCd back to me but in these odd cases there is no BCC line (unless I have explicitly BCCd the email to any other address).

Multi-Folders and Multi-MSF files

Submitted by MobileUser on December 17, 2013 - 6:01pm

I installed TB and created an IAMP account in TB yesterday.
I noticed that there are multi-folders in the directory:
E:\...\ThunderbirdPortable\Data\profile\ImapMail\
Here is the folder names:
imap.mail.yahoo.com
imap.mail.yahoo-1.com
imap.mail.yahoo-2.com
imap.mail.yahoo-3.com
imap.mail.yahoo-4.com
imap.mail.yahoo-5.com
imap.mail.yahoo-6.com
imap.mail.yahoo-6.com.sbd

Do I have to keep all these folders?

I also noticed that every time I turn on TB, TB creates a new "INBOX-X.msf" file (where "-X" is a number) in the "imap.mail.yahoo-6.com" folder.

Thunderbird Portable - Directory gone?

Submitted by vpnavy on December 13, 2013 - 12:41pm

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced the total deletion of their Thunderbird directory. This is the second time in the past month. Fortunately, I do a weekly backup and just copy the directory back over to my USB drive. I have everything running off my USB drive (carry between two systems) and the only problem I have is with Thunderbird Portable. Any suggestions?

* 24.2.0 - however, the problem happened with the prior version. Everyday I use Thunderbird - I always check for updates.

* Mail Account: POP

* AntiVirus/FireWall: Bitdefender Total Security
