I have a problem with PortableThunderbird + Gpg: There is an Enigmail initialization error that I can't get around.
Here are the steps that I took:
- Downloaded PortableThunderbird + Gpg 1.5.0.2 in zip format.
- Extracted contents to hard drive
- Executed PortableThunderbird.exe
- Gpg prompted for a new account creation. I tried two different things: I cancelled out or I created a new account. Either way, the next steps (and result) are still the same
- Clicked on OpenPGP -> KeyManagement
- Obtained the following error: "Enigmail: Error in initializing Enigmail Service".
All gpg/pgp functions are unusable, most are greyed out and clicking on those that are not result in the same error above.
I hate to make such a fool of myself, but I have to ask this question; Can I run Portable Thunderbird on my main machine - ie; not off a USB, but off the PC? In fact, can I run Abi the same way?
Please do not flame me to death, I just have to ask these things sometimes.
Hi,
I'm taking the plunge into portable Thunderbird and I'm trying to figure out the best way to keep it in sync with my main computer.
So far I've copied the entire profile folder, which seems to be working fine, but it's a bit much for everyday sync.
For everyday sync I'd like to just copy changes in emails, address book, and anything I may have done as far as sorting into folders, labels, etc. If I copy the mail/imapmail folders + prefs.js + abook.mab, will that be enough to keep all of these settings intact? If not, where are these settings located?
Also, is there a way to incrementally backup my mail folders so i don't have to copy the whole inbox when I've only added a few messages?
Is there a simple solution to keeping Thunderbird and Portable thunderbird synchronized?
Right now I copy the profile directory back and forth, but if I've made changes on both, then I accidentally overwrite one. Any advice on how to efficiently maintain a single profile in two different places?
(the same question applies to Firefox, with respect to bookmarks, etc.)
Thanks,
chris.
I recently installed the Google Desktop Search Beta 4. Although it claims to index Thunderbird mail (as long as the app is open), it has fine none of my emails. I think PTB doesn't give Google Desktop any signal that it is there, so Google doesn't look for its files.
Anyone know of a workaround?

Version: 1.5.0.2 (20060308)with enigmail + GPG
Recently i received a pop up saying that a newer version 1.5.0.4 was ready to install. So i backup me profile and allowed the update to continue. upon updating it said that it was missing some file and could not complete. since then i am not able to receive or send any emails from my gmail account and i receive this message... Sending password did not succeed. Mail at pop.gmail.com responded: user name and password not accepted.
i have not changed any of these settings and i am able to login with my user name and password. (i have tried to verify my passowrd in ptb settings but cannot locate?) thanks for your help...
When i use portable thunderbird it says that it connected, but it never downloads the mail. if i exit the program while it is connecting it "kills" the connection. this prevents me from downloading my mail.
Note: i have checked to make sure that all of my settings, username, and password are correct.
Dear Forum,
I started my use PTB with version 1.0.5 beta.
Migrated to PTB 1.0.7 beta by extracting the new version to its own folder named "Portable Thunderbird". Afterwards I copied the complete "\profile" folder into the new location.
As far as I can remember, everything worked just fine that way. I had my two accounts properly "imported", as well as "subfolders", into which I manually used to move received mails, depending on who sent me that specific mail.
After a reformat/clean install of WinXP Home SP2 I decided I wanted to go with portable programs wherever possible. PTB 1.502 + Enigmail & GPG installed fine and copying my previous profiles and data directories seemed to work OK. That was a couple of days ago. Now I am beginning to see a problem.
When initially signed in, I see no problems but after PTB has been running for several hours I find an apparent issue. I use filters to sort emails into a bunch of different folders based on sender or subject. The header for the folder lights up and says there are x new mails. I click on the folder and, voila', there are no new mails in the folder.
