Thunderbird doesn't update

Submitted by BPaul_H on December 18, 2019 - 1:09pm

I posted this to the Thunderbird forum thinking it is probably a Thunderbird issue. They suggested I post here, so here goes. I've had Thunderbird installed as a "Portable" application on my Thinkpad X1 (6th gen), Windows 10 Pro machine for over a year (installed on 06 Sep 2018). Profile resides on a network location. Never had a problem with Thunderbird updates until I noticed an issue today (it looks like the last update, v60.9.1, was on 07 Nov 2019). The update presently fails for an "unknown reason". I've tried the suggestions in another Thunderbird post multiple times but no luck.

I think it should be Beta 1 ???

Importing keys for encryption

Submitted by crollinsphoto on December 8, 2019 - 1:31pm

When I first installed the portable in 2016 importing worked. Now I cannot import any keys using the Key Management of Enigmail. I do not get any error or anything, just nothing happens. I generated keys through Kleopatra on my desktop and use the keys with no problem. I cannot even import older keys. Is it normal for everything in the Thunderbird folder to have the security of "Read Only"? I can go thru the motions to remove that but it always goes right back. Going on vacation soon and have my portable apps on a thumbdrive and I want to use that for all my needs.

Lightning Add-on disappeared

Submitted by frankest on November 16, 2019 - 4:33am

I just installed ThunderbirdPortable. But if I change the path to ThunderbirdPortable,
the Lightning calendear is not any longer available. However, this was the idea of a
portable application, that I can move it anywhre and continue working, am I right? So
what is the problem here? I have no more idea.

Making TB Portable default mail client without changing Windows 10 registry

Submitted by stelo on October 6, 2019 - 2:08am

I am using TB Portable (60.9.0) on a computer that runs Windows 10.
The main reason I use a portable version is that I don't have admin privileges to install any software on the machine.

I would like to set Thunderbird as default mail client (i.e. when clicking email links I would like to directly use Thunderbird for composing a new message).

Unfortunately all solutions that I found here and more in general online suggest to: (1) install a non-portable Thunderbird version, so that that can be set as default mail client; or (2) change the Windows registry.

Disable the splash screen for Thunderbird Portable 2nd Profile App

Submitted by Flipscript on September 13, 2019 - 1:09pm

I would be thankful if anyone could help me out and tell me how to disable the splash screen for the Thunderbird Portable 2nd Profile App.

Neither exists a corresponding ini-file in the directory "Other\Source" nor does using such a file in the conventional suggested way work.

2 profiles that use the same general thunderbird settings

Submitted by Flipscript on September 11, 2019 - 10:29am

Hi everybody,

i have set up two thunderbird profiles, one that’s used by me (profile 1) and the other one used by my girlfriend (profile 2).

I take care of all programs and keep them up to date in our household. Unfortunately, when I install addons, do improvements, adjustments or fixes to thunderbird for profile 1 I have to do the same (often fiddly and pesky) process for profile 2 so that both thunderbird profiles benefit from my changes and stay on the same level.
