ThunderbirdPortable leftovers in AppData and Registry

Submitted by AbsolutelyRandom on January 30, 2022 - 3:42am

I have found a few Thunderbird-related leftovers. I use Win7x64. I have been using Thunderbird since the previous version (91.5.0 I suppose). I've been using two extensions: Dark Reader and Thunderbird Conversations.

LEFTOVERS
Files:
1. AppData\Local\Thunderbird
2. AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird
Registry:
1. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Thunderbird
2. HKEY_USERS\***pc-user-personal-id***-Classes\Software\Thunderbird

***pc-user-personal-id*** - it's a random string which is different for each Windows user profile

[Fixed] Thunderbird Portable 91.4.0 leaves empty file in ProgramData

Thunderbird Portable 91.4.0 leaves an empty file named UpdateLock-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX in ProgramData after being closed. This is due to the way Thunderbird calculates the CityHash of the path it is running from.

I felt it was more important to update Thunderbird than to have it perfect. I spent a few hours poking around the 2GB of Thunderbird source to get it to match. I'm likely just missing a small detail. I'll be working on this to get it sorted in the next release.

Thunderbird RSS

Submitted by tlchost on November 30, 2021 - 6:25am

My rss feed of portableapps.com has disappeared from thunderbird. From what I can see on the site, there is no option to select an RSS feed that can be used with thunderbird. Please clarify.

thanks

scriptdaemon wrote "Mozilla Thunderbird 91.3.0 (John building for Stable release in line with local Stable push...)"

What will the actual version of Thunderbird Portable be that replaces the 78.14 version?

Firefox 91 ESR portable has been released, but nothing for Thunderbird which basically has the same Mozilla stable release
schedule as Firefox.

Using browser mailto:// links, Registry Key appears wrong - Solution here...

Submitted by PaulNormanNZ on October 19, 2021 - 2:20am

Hi,

Been loving using Thunderbird for years, but when I switched from the regular installed version, to PortableApps, one thing I could never get working again, was clicking a mailto:// link in any browser, it always tried to turn the requested email into a newsgroup message.

Any way I have found an answer, and it has to do with the way that a Registry key is being written by the System.

Portable Thunderbird has lost everything

Submitted by notjohncr2 on September 6, 2021 - 5:37pm

Following a system crash and a disk system repair Thunderbird thinks that it running for the first time despite most of the installation looking fine on the disk. Looking at Thunderbird support it appears that one or more profile file needs replacing. Unfortunately the relevant files are in a structure that differs significantly between the standard and portable systems. Can anyone tell me which files need replacing?
