What will the actual version of Thunderbird Portable be that replaces the 78.14 version?

Firefox 91 ESR portable has been released, but nothing for Thunderbird which basically has the same Mozilla stable release
schedule as Firefox.

Using browser mailto:// links, Registry Key appears wrong - Solution here...

Submitted by PaulNormanNZ on October 19, 2021 - 2:20am

Been loving using Thunderbird for years, but when I switched from the regular installed version, to PortableApps, one thing I could never get working again, was clicking a mailto:// link in any browser, it always tried to turn the requested email into a newsgroup message.

Any way I have found an answer, and it has to do with the way that a Registry key is being written by the System.

Portable Thunderbird has lost everything

Submitted by notjohncr2 on September 6, 2021 - 5:37pm

Following a system crash and a disk system repair Thunderbird thinks that it running for the first time despite most of the installation looking fine on the disk. Looking at Thunderbird support it appears that one or more profile file needs replacing. Unfortunately the relevant files are in a structure that differs significantly between the standard and portable systems. Can anyone tell me which files need replacing?

ThunderbirdPortable updated (31 May 2021) and all email accounts have vanished; how to recover profile?

Submitted by PortableAppsForum on June 2, 2021 - 9:02am

ThunderbirdPortable updated and all accounts have vanished, when executed it appears like a fresh install. Profile folder is still the expected size n GB. Checking this forum I have already tried:

(1) replacing the prefs.js file with one from a (much older) back-up, which made no difference
(2) Copy-pasting the data folder into the appropriate folder for a Thunderbird 78.0.1 desktop application, again not successful, the profile does not appear

Can anyone help guide me on how to recover my profile & emails? Thank you in advance

Migrating TB portable to Linux desktop

Submitted by Megafrog on May 12, 2021 - 4:02pm

Hi everyone. I've decided I want to take my portable TB and move it to an installed Linux desktop. Both are version 78. I tried the directions at this site but they simply did not work: It just asks me to "Set up your existing email address" even though I have something like 10 email addresses and a maze of mail sorting folders already in the old TB setup.

update destroyed profile and all accounts

Submitted by worldweb1 on May 7, 2021 - 8:39pm

Yesterday when Thunderbird auto-updated it destroyed my profile and disconnected all mail accounts.

Can anyone please help with a method of restoring these that doesn't involve trying multiple methods (typically 'none of' that will work)?

I won't place all the PC specs etc here, unless there are different methods for each OS.. I have used Thunderbird and Portable Apps for many years and have never experienced this issue before.
