Can't send mail from TB Portable

Submitted by digger057 on May 13, 2009 - 1:39pm

I've recently started to use Thunderbird Portable, but I am unable to send mail with it. I have no problem receiving mail but cannot use my provider's smtp server (which uses the same user name and password) to send mail. This problem exists anywhere I've tried (work, home, public, etc.) any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

enigmail takes C:\ for keyring files

Hi all,

I have recently set up a Portable Thunderbird with GnuPG (and Lightning) extension which seemed to run pretty well at the first glance.

Now that I am trying to set up another USB-stick in the same manner, I learned that gpg stores the keyring files under C:\

I made some experiments with adding parameters in the 'expert settings' dialogue or putting a gpg.conf file in the gpg root directory (where the gpg.exe lives) -- I didn't suceed, needless to mention.

To clearify the whole issue, here is how I figured out which keyring is used:

force quoted printable

I would like to force the TBP to use quoted printable as content transfer, but this seems not to work somehow. Either it chooses something by estimating the from the text or it has to be fixed set and then it uses often 8bit transfer encoding.

Any idea where to set it? It is somehow confusing, sometimes it arrives as 8bit sometimes as QP ..?

Reverting back to Local Thunderbird from Portable

Submitted by Deunan13 on April 25, 2009 - 3:09pm

My portable usb drive has died, and I am currently in the process of getting an RMA from the manufacturer to send it to them and get it fixed or replaced.

In the meantime however, I need to get my Thunderbird Portable settings to a local version of Thunderbird. I really need all the emails, settings, templates, and Lighting data from the Thunderbird Portable to the local Thunderbird.

Really stuck with Wine

Hope you can help cos I've searched everywhere!

I'm trying to get Thunderbird Portable to work on an Asus eee pc 900, using the linux distro it was sold with (I believe based on Xandros). I've managed to get Wine to work in general, after a bit of a slog, but now I have a problem with TP. When I open the ThunderbirdPortable.exe with Wine, I get the following error:

Mozilla Thunderbird, Portable Edition cannot be started. You may wish to re-install to fix this issue. (ERROR: thunderbird.exe cannot be found)

I've tried reinstalling as it suggests (on a Windows laptop) but no luck.

Lightning doesn't work with TB Portable

Submitted by righteouslyindignant on April 24, 2009 - 8:51pm

I've tried numerous times to add the Lightning 0.9 extension on to Thunderbird Portable but keep getting an error message on program start up.

There's some indication that some part of the extension installed itself, but the overall Calendar/Task functionality is very limited.

I'm surprised no one else has mentioned having this problem. Surely it can't just be me?

So, anyone know how to get TB Portable working with the Lightning extension?
