Thunderbird Portable

ThunderbirdPortableSettings.ini

Submitted by guidoneri on March 3, 2009 - 5:30pm

Hi there!

I'm quite new to TB Portable core features, though I've been using it happily for months, launching it from a USB external hard disk.

Today I quitted TB Portable and immediately after I disconnected the USB cable.

Few minutes ago I reconnected the USB external hard disk and started TBP again.

The sad surprise was that TBP asked me to create new accounts (with the new account set up windows) as it forgot everything of the past usage and data.

Thunderbird S-L-O-W launch

Submitted by kchildress on March 3, 2009 - 12:58pm

Hi all, I've been using the potable version of Thunderbird on a flash drive for several months now. This morning when I tried to launch Thunderbird it took nearly a 1/2 hour to open up. Once it opened up I compacted the mailboxes. I also followed the advice of another post and found and deleted the MSF files. Unfortunately, neither fix has cured the problem. It still takes forever to open the program. Task Manager indicates that the program is loading nearly 120,000K of data into memory before the progarm will open. Any suggstions as to what the heck has happened and how to fix it.

Importing & syncing contacts including Outlook

Submitted by WiMax on February 28, 2009 - 9:27pm

Hi everyone!

Executive Summary:
This describes an efficient and effective means of importing contacts from Outlook and other email programs after the initial installation.

Description:
During a first time setup of TB, the auto import feature is quite intuitive. It should allow you to import mail, address book and settings. It may not import all contact data as some programs, such as Outlook, have more than the 35 data fields that TB is limited to.

The challenge becomes to try to import data after the first time setup. An effective solution is Plaxo - www.plaxo.com

TB Portable not Portable Building Summary Prob.

Submitted by dward@deckercon... on February 25, 2009 - 10:01pm

I move around my Thunderbird Portable in a Truecrypt volume which acts as a drive letter. My real problem is that it seems when I move it to a new computer each folder has to take a million years building a summary of the emails present. What's the deal? Is there a fix or can a code monkey look into making this... well portable? I mean I love the product running in a secure volmune and with PGP/SMIME intergration.

Vista and XP see differently, what did I do wrong.

Submitted by doc029 on February 25, 2009 - 10:05am

I installed Thunderbird portable while plugged into my Vista machine and created 4 IMAP accounts. Everything was working fine.

When I plugged my drive into my XP laptop it still shows account entries for the 4 accounts, but none of the folders, and can't seem to connect to download again. I put it back in the Vista machine and everything works perfectly (it re-learns the folder structure from the accounts and gets new mail).

Recieving mail but sometimes it does not BOLD the folder with new mail in it

Submitted by mr_bruce on February 25, 2009 - 3:53am

I have version 2.0.0.19.

I recieve the emails alright but many times it does not bold the folder with new mails in it.

I use alot of filters to sort the emails.

The folder only becomes bold after I have clicked it. It´s almost as thunderbird only then notices that there is new mail in the folder.

I have many folders, so clicking on all of them when checking mail is not really an option.

Any ideas?

Copying Profile A Partial Failure

Submitted by eschamp on February 23, 2009 - 3:25pm

I copied all the files and folders under c:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\0c9iapp6.PJH\ to the folder k:\ThunderbirdPortable\App\DefaultData\profile\

All of the accounts appear but the subfolders do not.

Also, when I started a download from one account, it went back to Jan 24th.

My filters are not there.

My extensions are not there.

Account & Mail gone from T-Bird Portable

Submitted by deepestfishguy on February 15, 2009 - 8:09pm

2009-02-15

My issue sounds similar to another recent post, with a slight difference.

My whole account disappeared (including email, of course) but my Address Book and Tools - - > Options settings remained as I had set them.

I installed 7-Zip_Portable_4.62.paf.exe as Thunderbird Portable itself recommended, and I was able to extract the msf files. However, when I go to open them, Thunderbird itself opens, but not my files.

ascending/descending & threaded/unthreaded

Submitted by Miles on February 13, 2009 - 10:13am

Have 150 folders in TB 2.0.0.16 which were set for descending/threaded. When opened in Portable all reverted to ascending/unthreaded. And this continues to change back every time the program is turned on in a different computer.

Discovered that when TB was first opened all of the folders had question marks in lieu of actual msg counts, both unread and total. Go to View/Sort by and they read as I had them set. But when click on the folder it then changes the question marks to the actual numbers and the settings are reversed.
