Flash cookies

Submitted by Anteaus on January 20, 2011 - 5:08pm

One point I thought I'd mention is that if you add NPSWF32.DLL to the plugins folder of any portable browser, this results in Flash cookies being saved to your userprofile's AppData\Macromedia folder.

There may be no way to avoid this I guess, but it does mean that a personal browsing-trail is being left-behind on the computer. If sites use Flash cookies as an ID -which I believe some do- then it might also cause the installed browser to suddenly start referring-to the computer's owner as whatever ID you gave to a site.

2nd profile is s---l---o---w

Submitted by LDMartin1959 on January 19, 2011 - 4:34pm

I installed a 2nd portable profile using the profile utility from this website. The 2nd profile is s---l---o---w. It takes minutes to start, installing an extension takes nearly as long. The first profile does not seem to have this issue. Has anyone else had this problem?

firefox 4 beta ... not retaining setup data

Submitted by schlieph on January 19, 2011 - 7:27am

on a typical day, i'll use portable firefox 4 beta at work and update extensions as necessary.

later, i'll be at home and fire up firefox 4 beta only to discover that i have to update the same extensions all over again.

apparently, firefox 4 beta isn't retaining setup data but i haven't a clue about how to fix it.

i have firefox 3.6.13 portable on the same drive but rarely use it. might it be that the firefoxes are conflicting/confused about where setup data should be stored?

thanks for any help.

regards, ..

Problem in pinning Firefox to Windows 7 Taskbar

I tried both Firefox stable version and beta version but both failed. My problem is when I pin the 'Firefoxportable' it starts with the default firefox profile and an user directory in my "E:\Users\Arnob\AppData\Roaming' is created. Whereas, the software should use the profile in 'Installation directory (where I installed the portable firefox)\App\Data".

My steps are as follows:
1) Instal the portable Firefox
2) Start it and right click to pin

Firefox not working on Windows 7 64 bit?

Submitted by cormorant on January 11, 2011 - 4:42am

Hello,

Last night I tried to install Firefox portable on Windows 7 64 bit. Everything worked like normal when I started FF. However, changes made to the settings or add-ons installed are not remembered, no matter whether I run FF as a normal user or with admin privileges.

I can't seem to find anything about this behaviour on the Internet, so I assume that this must be a rather rare issue.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be the cause of this problem?

Cheers,
cormorant

Some addons don't work after moving PortableFirefox

Submitted by markreaves on January 10, 2011 - 1:23am

Ok a summery up till now: I have portable Firefox and I customized it with addons and such. Most of the addons work when the Firefox is moved but some don't. To get them working again I have to go to tools > addons > find updates then restart.

The addons in question:
* QuickProxy: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1557/
* Toggle Private Browsing: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/9517/

Addons that DO work:
* Download Statusbar
* NoScript
* Past Modern Theme

Using Portable Firefox 3.6.13

Already in use message

Submitted by Q Mark on January 9, 2011 - 5:50pm

My ffp's (2 portable ver.) keep giving me that "already in use" message. It doesn't matter which ff ver. it is. I open one up, do my thing, close it down and do something else on the pc. Later on I try to open the same one and i get "already in use". It seems like the only way to get it to work again is to restart the pc. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening & how I can fix it, if I can fix it.

Thanks.

Flashgot uses absolute paths for custom downloader.. help?

Submitted by markreaves on January 1, 2011 - 5:04pm

I have portable Firefox and installed the Flashgot addon so I could use a custom Downloader (eepget from I2P). It works BUT Flashgot puts in an absolute path to the eepget.exe and doesn't work when I move portable Firefox.

Question is, is there any way around this so Firefox, Flashgot and eepget can all be used portably?

I can't seem to find ANY information on this anywhere that fixes this issue.
