XAMPP WinMySQLadmin writes my.ini onto host

Submitted by freemp on March 4, 2008 - 4:26pm

I was just wondering into which directory WinMySQLadmin saves the my.ini file it created during first launch.

Looks like it's being written right into the %windir% of the host system.

Now, I'm wondering why XAMPP is being considered portable if it leaves that file on the host... Or did I forget to configure something? I installed the XAMPP launcher, then extracted the XAMPP package, called xampp_setup.bat, started XAMPP via the PortableApps launcher, installed and started the mysql server, started the WinMySQLadmin via the 'Admin...' button. That's it.

@Ryan McCue, help with RDTools

Submitted by wraithdu on March 4, 2008 - 12:40pm

I seem to be having a permissions or something issue with RDTools on 32-bit Vista Ultimate SP1. RDTools seems to create the SendTo shortcuts just fine, but it cannot remove them. This is strange. I have to investigate a little further what's going on and if it is a problem with permissions or not.

Some strange behavior in general though, if I type 'sendto' in the run box in Vista, I get an access denied error. But I can navigate to the directory and delete what I want just fine. I'm sure this is all related.

[Notepad++Portable] How to install other plugins ?

If anybody need to install a notepad++ plugin (available here) in the non-portable version of notepad++, he usually has to unzip the plugin dlls in "plugins" folder of notepad++ root folder. If the plugin has specific settings, these settings will be saved in an ".ini" file in notepad++ root folder or in "plugins\config\" folder.

Notepad++ Upgrade deletes plugins

Submitted by Jimbo on February 29, 2008 - 2:28am

When I updated from the previous version (portable) to 4.8, it cleaned out everything in the app folder, which included my manually installed plugins.

I had a couple of extra dll files that I'd installed in \PortableApps\Notepad++Portable\App\Notepad++\plugins\ alongside the ones it ships with. Is there some other folder that is persistent in the portable version, or this this something that may need to be looked at in the launcher?

Happily, I had a backup of the plugins, so it was easy to reinstall them, and they work fine now that I have done so.

[DOSBox Portable] installing german language (not KEYB)

Submitted by Traeumer76 on February 26, 2008 - 5:26am

Hello everybody,

i need some help installing the german language file in "DOSBox Portable". Maybe it´s the same problem with other languages, too.

I downloaded the file and put it into my \DOSBoxPortable\App\DOSBox\ where the original README.txt is located. (That seemed to be the directory similar to the "Application folder" mentioned in the instructions.)
Afterwards i changed the dosbox.conf from "language=" (standard setting) into "language=deutsch.lng"

Auto Starting

Submitted by tigreseis on February 24, 2008 - 2:45pm

Someone please help. I have been struggling with this. I have been trying to get RocketDock to autostart when I plug in my USB. I have followed all the ideas on this forum, but something isn't right.

I edited the autorun.inf to point to RocketDock instead of geek.menu, but the choose action screen came up anyway.

I changed the choices to "Take no action" as someone suggested, but then the root of my usb opens up.

I downloaded PSU and changed the "open" element to psu.exe -all, but the choices menu opens again.
