Google Chrome won't update

Submitted by thany on May 27, 2013 - 5:16am

This has happened a few times over, and it keeps happening. Whenever PA.com sees an update for Google Chrome, it starts downloading (and steal focus!) only to discover that the update is "not valid and cannot be installed" by displaying a message about it (and stealing focus a second time!)

Again, this is not the first time. This appears to happen at each major release for Chrome. If the download is corrupt somehow, please fix it. If the download is not there yet somehow, don't update. Either way it's bothersome...

Support link from the Help menu

Submitted by thany on May 27, 2013 - 5:11am

The support link from the help menu opens with Google Chrome. That's not my default browser, so please open web links in the default browser, instead of arbitrarily in a different one.

Links from other Windows applications do open in my default browser, so it's not system config at fault.

Windows 7 x64 SP1, Opera 12.15, PA.com 12.0 beta 2 (auto-update is enabled, so I have to assume this is the latest version).

Portable USB installer (like UUI)

Submitted by Tattorack on May 22, 2013 - 8:36am

Hi guys
I'm want to instal Damn Small Linux on my 8GB Micro SD and I don't have access to a computer with admin rites.
The only program I could find to do this is UUI (Universal USB Installer), but its not portable and is thus blocked by the computer.
I'm wondering if there is a portable equivelant that would allow me to do the same?
(and no, begging whoever the admin is to allow me to instal DSL is out of the question XD)

McAfee Stinger Portable

Submitted by snowdrift on May 21, 2013 - 11:26am

I am trying to run the latest version of McAfee Stinger Portable, posted 13 May, but when the app runs, it comes up with some screen showing command line options and never proceeds to the main GUI of Stinger. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? I am running Windows 7 x64 and it's up-to-date. Thanks.

Chrome Portable - Disable Web Access

Submitted by hepburn3d on May 15, 2013 - 9:12am

Out of curiosity would it be possible to prevent, suppress or disable chromes internet connection locally.

The reason I ask is that I've enabled --allow-file-access-from-files for local use. I'm curious but could this be used maliciously if a user somehow accessed the web? At present I've not allowed them any way to get to the web but I'm curious about the security risks this may present.

Perhaps I'm being over cautious or maybe naive. I wondered if anyone has come across this dilemma before?

jPortable 6?

Submitted by RyeJob on May 14, 2013 - 4:08pm

Hi,

I've been using jPortable for a while and like it a lot. Now I need to work on a project with an old library that requires the older Java versions (it won't work with the current jPortable_7*). Where can I download the older jPortable_6* packages? Thanks for any help.
