Hi Guys

Sorry to be nit picking but I know how much effort goes into giving the most professional service here at PA.com so had to pick this nit Wink

On the applications page and the applications sub-pages, the descriptions inconsistently begin with lower and upper case letters. In one instance upper case letters are used in mid sentence, GIMP has "Photo and Image Editor".

YouTube Portable App

Submitted by ALIEN_ on March 31, 2009 - 7:12am

Hi All,

I've searched forum to no avail in finding a portable app to download YouTube videos besides Firefox.

I know there are websites around to help do this but I can't access these sites from my work internet account.

Does anyone know of a portable app to do this?

Thanks

Replace XP start menu with Portable Apps menu

Submitted by jrhorner on March 30, 2009 - 5:56pm

Sorry if posted before but I couldn't find anywhere in the forums or with the search.

I've been using Portable Apps for a while and now have just gotten an Acer Aspire One NETBOOK. I've been playing around and have managed ti hide the XP Start menu and button and have created a taskbar with the Portable Apps Menu for a start. Now comes the question for the hardcore developers.

Has anyone been able to successfully replace the Windows XP start menu and button with the Portable Apps Menu? If so what steps to take to integrate it correctly or can someone point me in the right direction?

Variables

Hi
I'm making a program portable for my use, but i'm stuck with 2 folders:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data
C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data

These folders don't have a variable, the maximum that I could do is use %ALLUSERSPROFILE% and %USERPROFILE% but it wont work since "Application Data" and "Local Settings" changes its name in localized Windows versions.

Anyone may help me?

How safe are portable apps

Submitted by boygenius on March 26, 2009 - 10:54pm

I have been using portable apps at the office for the past few weeks. I'm dreading the day the IT department, for some reason, finds out and asks about it. I'm dreading that day because I really don't know how secure using portable apps is.

My question is how safe are these apps? I really only use Firefox, Chrome and Texter since Head Office has only and will only install IE. What should I tell IT when they ask about it?

I really don't want to have to stop using these wonderful tools.

Thanks.

John - Re: Release Dates

Submitted by someoneabc on March 26, 2009 - 2:35pm

John, I think I'm representing the community here when I say this. Please stop posting release dates when you never can fulfill them. Personally, I'd rather have a surprise when something comes out, than to keep being bombarded with "It's coming out this week", "In a few days", etc. Just say, It'll be done when it's done!
  Thank you.

P.S. Very sorry about being harsh, I didn't really reread it before posting. Here I'll put in that I'm really very grateful for the quality work you put out here. Thanks so much!
