Just wanted to let everyone know that the whole site has switched from using the Tango icon set under the CC-Attribution license to the Oxygen Icons set which is dual licensed under the GPL and CC-Attribution. This means that we can now use our main icon pack within applications and splash screens now. Plus the new category icons will be used for the default categories (aka folders) within the PortableApps.com Platform 2.0 - which will have a test release shortly.

travelers desktop (cross-platform -?)

Submitted by brotherinbluejeans on March 17, 2009 - 4:55pm

i do alot of internaitonal traveling and have always been frustrated with having to change computer all the time at internet cafes and.. i searched to portable desktops and tried a few webOS.. nothing struck my fancy. webOS is cool but i need to be able to access my info offline as well.. there are pleanty of portable apps out there (as evidenced by this sit,) but i want to be able to isolate my desktop from the host machine not simply start up another program.. and to top off the challenge; i want cross-platform comatibility.

Developers: Add Full Description/Features To Your Posts!

In preparation for a faster release cycle, I'd like all developers to have a homepage and news story-ready description and feature list included with their main posts for all development tests and pre-releases. If you have any additional notes that should be added to the page or release story, those should be noted as well. We're going to be going through the list of apps more thoroughly and many apps with just minor omissions (missing a help file, some appinfo errors, etc) will be cleaned up and released directly rather than taking additional time.

Pidgin

Submitted by tlchost on March 16, 2009 - 7:11am

It appears that ICQ is reporting that the latest version of Pidgin is out of date....Anyone else notice this?

The regular installation og the current Pidgin does not have this problem.

thanks

Making my app really secure

Submitted by sniffy on March 15, 2009 - 2:55pm

If I wanted to make my PortableApp software really secure which would be the best 8GB flash drive to use? I know most of you may say AES hardware encrypted which I think is fine too, but what I'm looking for is the name of the product you're using to encrypt yours, and please could you tell me why you think it is so good compared to others?
I use "TrueCrypt for all my PC based stuff, however I wouldn't choose to use it for a flash drive.

Many thanks.
