Apps page should only feature 'official' PortableApps

Having a list with Portable Apps is great, however I noticed some 3rd party ones in the list like XAMPP and Mac-on-Stick are 3rd party releases. Maybe these releases should be kept in a seperate list. Why? Because maybe the portability is okay I don't know in how far it can be considered a completely compatible app for the PA Platform.

Suggestions for Portable Apps menu

I admit I just installed PortableApps and had to update (because of a crash on win 2000) to v1.0.1. Then I also installed most apps available on the Applications page.

Now I have some suggestions:

[1] The ability to collapse groups of Apps (for example Open Office) or a way to (sub) categorise the shortcuts in the start menu (using a + or something). This way a listing could be kept fairly small and for example games can be put into their own group.

Portable applications from a microdrive?

I'm about to receive a 4GB Hitachi Microdrive to fiddle around with.

I was tempted to install an OS onto it until I read up on the limitations.
Has anyone tried actively running portable apps from one of these babies?

I have a 4GB Sandisk Cruzer Micro that I'll be comparing it to.
Although they are by no means in competition, it would serve as an interesting comparison.

Hitachi Microdrive:

Data buffer: (KB) 128
Rotational speed (rpm): 3600
Latency (average ms): 8.33
Media transfer rate (max. Mbits/sec): 57.1 - 97.9
Interface transfer rate (max. MB/sec)2: 33

16gb USB drive?

Submitted by simbeb on September 11, 2007 - 8:31am

I saw a 16gb usb flash drive on Ebay that was £35 + £5 P&P. The seller no longer sells them. There are only £60 to £90 ones now on Ebay. Does any one know of a UK online retailer that sells 16gb usb flash drives for a reasonable price?

Yeah I tried 3 different versions of NSIS and any version of the PortableApps Installer won't compile, it will compile on Win2k Pro but not on XP and I have tried compiling on 2 XP machines, I tried running makensis under Win2k compatibility mode but no avail.

Heres the error:

!insertmacro: macro named "LANGFILE" not found!
!include: error in script: "F:\PortableApps\NSISPortable\App\NSIS\Contrib\Modern UI\Language files\English.nsh" on line 4
Error in macro MUI_LANGUAGE on macroline 5

Idea for forum.

Maybe we should have a thread stickied in the "Request Apps" forum which lists alot of the apps that are available in portable form (or have already been requested).

I was reading the "Un-official Request Apps Guidelines," and figured that most newbies would probably rather read this thread than that one, hoping to find what they are looking for on "the list"

This should help cut down on the duplicate requests.

I don't know, just a thought.
