well it looks like the US government will come to a halt. sure some agencies will still be doing their work but 800000 people will be at home without pay. the IRS will be closed (YEY). The agency that works with national parks will be closed (boooooo >:( )

What is your opinion or feelings on the Furlough?

General Torrent Question

Submitted by sja5164 on March 31, 2011 - 7:56pm

Posting this as Off-Topic because it's not a portable app.

I'm using uTorrent on a VM (Windows 7 x64 host, XP pro SP3 as VM). It was working perfectly fine, and uTorrent pushes the finished downloads onto my host machine. If the men in black show up, delete the VM and claim I have no idea what a VM is. (yes I know that's thin, but it may help with a small fish like me)

Quick question

Submitted by Soulmech on March 29, 2011 - 12:20am

So my girlfriend spilled orange juice all over (and inside--I poked around and found corrosion and orange pulp) her Mac and is going to have to get a cheapie Windows laptop to replace it. However, she uses iPhoto and iMovie often.

Are there any programs for Windows with similar functionality that are free/relatively inexpensive? I really don't want to tell her "GIMP and Windows Movie Maker", but this is not my area of expertise.

Copying a Google Map as an Image & then editing by adding notes to the image

Submitted by cleanshave5 on March 9, 2011 - 11:07am

Howdy,

I want to copy a Google Map to either my hard drive or flash drive and save it as an editable document or image. I want to take that document or image and add little comments, notes and arrows to it. I'm then going to upload it to a Google Site as a static page (not a link). Do we have any app(s) that can help me do this, or does anyone know how to do it?

Hi there.
I've been a fan of portable apps through my college years, which has been a great help. I'm looking for a light tablet/netbook and to put portable apps on there.

Pretty new to me. Internet's turned up tablet netbooks and some flashy looking Tablet PC-MID.

Typically on it I'd use EasyPHP, Notepad portable or some other ide,
use an app to remote control a linux machine or a windows one on occasion(teamviewer, hamachi, stuff like that),
only have a wifi connection otherwise not online, check out youtube now and then.

Weight is a problem for me; nothing more than a pound.

safeconsole

This looks really nice, but the price is killer. I like the fact that it has 256 bit encryption, and they state that it will load in 3 seconds. There appear to be a ton of other features that go along with it also. Anybody else heard of this or even if they are worth the cost?

Thanks

Well, that's scary...

For years, ads pimping malware disguised as legitimate antivirus programs have gone to great lengths to mimic the look and feel of Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser and Windows operating system. Now Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Apple Safari are getting the same treatment.

A security researcher from Zscaler has recently uncovered a campaign that's tailored to the browser that the intended victim is using. Those with IE will see the same tired graphic depicting a Windows 7 security alert, but look what happens when the visitor is using Firefox.

unable to remove usb stick

Submitted by ottosykora on February 20, 2011 - 12:29pm

Since some recent times, I am unable to eject the stick after it has run the suite.
When I just connect it and copy something from or to it, no problem, the windows driver (green arrow) works and will eject the stick.

However once I start the suite, it does not matter how I close it, windows reports 'still accesed by some programm' and thus the stick can not be stopped.

This hapends only on my xp machine, w7 and w2k all is fine.

Any idea how to find out what is still stopping the eject mechanism to operate correctly?
