Disabling update for a specific app

Submitted by MBentefor on January 17, 2024 - 8:12am

Hi! I often use PAP on various PCs, some of which are x64, some x86, some have XP or even 2000, some - Windows 11.
It is always pretty hard to have a set of apps which will support all of these.
Sometimes I simply create a double folder for an app where I keep its - let's say - latest x64 version, while in the original folder remains app's legacy x86 version.
Sometimes I try find the oldest version which supports all systems.
I have 2 questions here:

Portableapps website breakages on Firefox

Everywhere I go here , I see this. Also on Chrome, but I was only able to post using Chrome. On Firefox, save button greyed out.

The balance of this message applies to Firefox.

Web page addresses and e-mail addresses turn into links automatically". Apparently, not so currently.

I also had problems trying to edit this message field, i.e. In the previous sentence. I could not access the "Web page addresses" text area after posting it.

Where are the registry entries stored?

Submitted by SebastianJu on December 31, 2023 - 6:00am

Hello,

I didn't find the search function in the forum, so I will ask directly. With portable apps, where are the registry entries stored? Surely for most apps there need to be a rerouting since they otherwise would request infos from the windows registry directly.

I would like to change some setting that I would have to change in the registry normally, but with portable apps it's likely some file, right?

Thank you!

Thank you, John (re: Ads)

I know this isn't the right platform for talking to you, but I don't know where that one is, so here goes: You told us some time ago that the ad saturation thing was temporary, to test various things, and I think everybody understood the need for exploring ways to increase the revenue of PA.com. I, for one, am relieved to see that the experimental stage appears to have passed, and I just want to thank you for giving us back the site we hold dear without being bowled over by ads everywhere. I hope the revenue situation is improving.

Thunderbird Portable to Thunderbird migration?

Submitted by Tim Chesnutt on December 23, 2023 - 10:55am

I have been happily using Thunderbird portable for some long time now (I see my membership here is 17+ yrs). In past years I did use it to travel with just a USB drive or a hard drive, but in more recent times, I am realizing I am now only ever on my PC, or on my own laptop, just plugging my drive into which ever I will be using at the time (PC at home and laptop to travel)

PortableApps pathing question.

Submitted by doni49 on December 17, 2023 - 4:10pm

I have OBS Portable installed on a USB stick. Within OBS, I have it set to store videos on the USB stick under the Videos folder. I also have a png file stored on the USB stick to use as a logo in new videos.

The first few times I ran it, the USB stick was assigned to the D drive. As such, OSB is set to look to the D drive for the above mentioned file paths.

I just plugged the USB stick in again (in the same PC) and it got assigned to the E drive even though there was no other external drive connected and the D drive was not assigned to anything.

Hello,
I'm so grateful to have discovered such a great piece of software when I did, and quite candidly I really wish that I would have discovered the platform much sooner than I did !! I'm currently running the portableapps software on a San Disk Cruzer Glide 128 GB USB Thumb Drive, while I'm thinking about the subject, is there a certain technical specification that needs to be met so as to be able to the best results overall ? Merry Christmas & Happy New Year To Everyone
