Hi guys!
First of all: Enjoy deleting this post Smile I do not mind. And I still thank you for the work you made.

When I saw Portable APPs manager first I told myself: WOW! After using it I found AWKWARD behaviours, features and points which could be improved. I mean improved with small effort with big result value.

How to automatically update the apps without confirming?

Submitted by Dirki on February 6, 2013 - 4:45am

How can I let the apps automatically update without to have to confirm anything. So, e.g. when PortApps starts or after a special time it automatically shall look for updates and update all apps automatically.

How could I avoid these captchas on this forum? And why do members have to fill out captchas here?

Some newbie-questions

Submitted by Lennart on February 4, 2013 - 5:16am

Hi all,

Just installed PortableApps on my USB-stick. It looks good!

There are some things i couldn't find so quickly, only old topics or it's not clear for me.

  • Is it easy to add own portable but paid software? I use the Pro-version of NoteCase and i like to integrate it.
  • Can i easily ad a shortcut to the startmenu?
  • Is there a searchbar available for the startmenu like the windows-startmenu?
  • And, last but not least, how can i quickly register portable programs on a computer?

Secure copy of ./Data files

Submitted by farat_as on February 3, 2013 - 5:48pm

Hi,

I will copy /Data folder from my USB drive (E:\) to another local drive(F:\).

Is there any problem if I copy them with this command (example with Listary):

xcopy "E:\PortableApps\FILES\BACKUP DATA\ListaryPortable\Data" "F:\PortableApps\PortableApps\ListaryPortable\Data" /S /E /I /Q /H /K

Someone told me that I should use /O /X parameters which are:

/O Copies file ownership and ACL information.
/X Copies file audit settings (implies /O).

Hi i have been testing the several antivirus apps here on portable apps in this list click here

  1. calm win: seems to update virus definitions ok. and scan system. what i noticed is that it does not seem to do anything with detected viruses.
  2. HijackThis Portable: again great scanning ability. but detects things that are not viruses. when checking the app and clicking analyse this button it gives error of not being connected to internet and i have to manually check them myself online.

slow running and antivirus mess.

I wanted to ask this as it was bugging me.

1. i noticed that when running portable app from the menu they seem to lag and take time to run. they are somewhat slower that i expect. really noticeable when using any of the portable browsers and using youtube etc.

2. i run avast antivirus and when ever i run any portable apps application avast detects a threat and scans the app. would love to know if anyone else uses avast and knows a tweak to set the portable apps directory to be ignored when running any portable apps.

my system is
os: win7 home premium 32bit

It's difficult to know whether or how this topic has been explored in the past because a search engine can only find 'so much'.

Having recently acquired and iPad from my nephew, I find it interesting how that mobile device handles security issues. Essentially, when running any iOS device you have the iOS operating system which runs totally independently from all other software. All added software utilities are essentially separate entities; each software installation is in effect a portable application that runs in its own sandbox.
