Yeah I tried 3 different versions of NSIS and any version of the PortableApps Installer won't compile, it will compile on Win2k Pro but not on XP and I have tried compiling on 2 XP machines, I tried running makensis under Win2k compatibility mode but no avail.

Heres the error:

!insertmacro: macro named "LANGFILE" not found!
!include: error in script: "F:\PortableApps\NSISPortable\App\NSIS\Contrib\Modern UI\Language files\English.nsh" on line 4
Error in macro MUI_LANGUAGE on macroline 5

Idea for forum.

Maybe we should have a thread stickied in the "Request Apps" forum which lists alot of the apps that are available in portable form (or have already been requested).

I was reading the "Un-official Request Apps Guidelines," and figured that most newbies would probably rather read this thread than that one, hoping to find what they are looking for on "the list"

This should help cut down on the duplicate requests.

I don't know, just a thought.

How can I uninstall?

Submitted by elmaimonero on September 10, 2007 - 9:19pm

I installed the standard version, but I want to uninstall, then Install the Basic version that only comes with the PortableApps menu.

Only problem is, I dunno how to uninstall.

Can anyone point me in the right direction as to how to go about this ordeal?
(Or just post link telling me what I need to know)

portable media player & library?

Submitted by simbeb on September 10, 2007 - 4:55am

Hi,

I am using a USB flash drive with Portable Apps installed. I would like a portable media player that would use the music files in the 'music' folder as its library. I have tried Portable itunes, but it uses the drive letter of the usb drive to find the allocated library, which means every time I use a different usb port or PC, it can't find the library. Does anyone know a solution?

suggestion for all portableapps

I would like to have some option like 'don`t use compression', which means if the launcher is started once he will un upx everything and not upx it again until this option is set.

This is because some apps like firefox seam to start and run significant slower then the local installed ones. Such non-packed versions would be the better choice for usb harddrives, usb-sticks are because of size better with upx one.

is somewhere a wiki for portable related things?

Is there already a wiki for all portable related things?

If not, someone could host one? Just the software. However, give it time and leave it with Open Content like wikipedia.

Some frequently asked things could be described there and it could be a place to store instructions to make some apps portable (specially good for Closed Source ones). For example for this thread https://portableapps.com/node/8947 it would make sense imho to design a wiki page where all advantages/disadventages are listed and discussed.
