Please continue the discussion there

I'm putting up a thread so we can discuss the apps to include in the next release of the PortableApps.com Suite. All versions include what will be referred to as the PortableApps.com Platform (menu, backup, custom icons, autorun). The Standard package currently includes:

Start.PortableApps.com Website Is Live

Just wanted to post a note that I set start.portableapps.com live today. The menu links to it when you select to Search the Web. It's a simple page similar to the default Firefox homepage that allows you to search Google. PortableApps.com gets a share of all ad revenue generated by searches done through the page.

So, if you'd like to set it as your homepage, that would be cool, too Smile

I have just noticed something a bit disturbing: not only are my portableapps.com account details open to anyone who wants to see them, but any search engine is free to index them!

Please, restrict the access to account information to people logged in, or at least set those pages not to be indexed (either using robots.txt or the <meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow"> tag).

Thanks

Eclipse on a thumbdrive

Submitted by sblandin on August 6, 2007 - 9:37am

I know that this topic has been addressed many times, but I am going to tell how I was able to have a working Eclipse on my thumbdrive without a JRE installed on the host computer.

EasyEclipse (http://www.easyeclipse.org/site/home/) is a customized distibution of Eclipse that comes with everything needed for the application to run (JRE included).

Which passwords are typicaly stored on a PortableApps USB Drive (including private data) ?

Submitted by munyard on August 6, 2007 - 6:07am

Hi,

I appear to have mislaid my 1GB Drive, which has a typical PortableApps and U3 installation on it and perhaps a few additional apps, like Skype, FileZilla, Komposer, Putty.

I am wondering what passwords are typically stored on the USB, in anticipation of what passwords I need to go ahead and change. So far I have changed passwords for Mozilla Plugins like del.icio.us and I have already changed my email account passwords.

What other passwords will Mozilla Store on the USB?

When I Use My U3 Flash Drive, I Usually Transfer Stuff To Another (Non-U3) Drive. But When Ever My U3 Drive Is Plugged In...
I Can Access Any Of The Other Flash Drives.
There On The "My Computer" Menu But When I Click It

THERE IS NOTHING ON THE DRIVE
not one file

i cannot even drag or save anything into it

When I Remove My U3 And Then Plug My Other Flash Drive In.
All My Files On The (Non-U3) Drive, Are There....

Is My U3 Flash Drive Stopping Me From Viewing My Other Drives?

Is it possible to have a knoppix.iso installed on a thumbdrive and still be able to use the portable apps in knoppix?(under wine). I was wondering because I will be getting an 120gig usb hdd and i want to partition it to be able to run knoppix.. and a few other batch files. It would be nice to be able to have a barebone knoppix.iso and just use the portable apps.

Formatting a USB device

Submitted by podman on August 5, 2007 - 5:58am

Hi, I'm new here, and have what is probably a very daft question, but please bear with me. I've just bought my first USB device and am looking forward to filling it with portable apps. So, on to the question:

I have an Integral Ice 2GB USB flash drive, which has password protection on it, which is accessed by a file called USB Disk Pro v2.7 (UDPv270.exe). This allows you to set a password and format the drive into a protected and unprotected partition (appearing as two drive letters on XP). Both are formatted FAT. My question is in two parts:
