error starting Portableapps on linux using wine

Submitted by jojothehobo on March 26, 2013 - 10:14am

I tried to run my portable apps usb on a modern (Zorin 6 ultimate) Linux distribution, using Wine. I'm running a two year old desktop with AMD quad core with 8gb ram and 256 gb hard drive.I got an error message:

start message:

NSIS was not found!(Looked for it in ..\NSISPortable\App\NSIS\makensis.exe)

You can specify a custom path to makensis.lexe in Z:\media\NONAMEFOR\PortableApps\PortableApps.comlauncher\Data\settings.ini,[GeneratorWizard]:makensis

end message

Submitted by Kriegerwitwe on March 21, 2013 - 4:27pm

Hi everybody. Id like to know how I can modify the source of PortableAppsPlatform.exe with reshacker to make the window drop a shadow like every window in win7 does.

Some additional code here i guess:

object frmMenu: TfrmMenu
Left = 1200
Top = 394
AlphaBlend = True
AlphaBlendValue = 0
BorderIcons = []
BorderStyle = bsNone
Caption = 'PortableApps.com Menu'
ClientHeight = 573
ClientWidth = 406
Color = clGreen
TransparentColor = True
TransparentColorValue = clFuchsia
DoubleBuffered = True
Font.Charset = DEFAULT_CHARSET
Font.Color = clWindowText

Command line options for PortableAppsPlatform.exe

Submitted by raidscsi on March 21, 2013 - 1:25pm

I would like to be able to use a command line option to close/ kill the PortableAppsPlatform.exe automatically.

I found through a search that PortableAppsPlatform.exe uses a third party eject tool "PortableApps\PortableApps.com\App\Bin\eject.exe", but found nothing regarding the close but not eject button.

Any thoughts.

PortableAppsPlatform.exe /q /quit /exit /close .... something along those lines.

Custom build with Portable Firefox 19 is missing navigational and SSL buttons

Hi all,

We have a custom build of firefox that we give to our clients. Today I've been trying to build it with portable firefox 19 (the latest, as of 03/21/13), but functionality that's there with the current release (built with portable firefox 18) is missing with the 19 build.

This is probably best communicated with a screenshot, here's what the build with portable firefox 18 looks like (with nav and ssl buttons outlined in red)

And here's a screenshot of the build with portable ff 19:

[SOLVED] Internal installation - how to register default apps?

Submitted by OsakaWebbie on March 11, 2013 - 5:16am

I got a new laptop (actually, my first ever - I have always had just a desktop plus a PortableApps-equipped thumb drive for travel), and decided that I like the consolidation of PortableApps enough that even for permanent installation on the new PC's C drive I would install a PortableApps collection instead of standard installations to the Program Files folder. But... How can I set up the default behavior for things like double-clicking files?

Warning for possible virus on open

Submitted by sicnessrusso95 on March 9, 2013 - 6:22pm

every time i open the platform it gives me the warning that it detected changes to the autorun.inf file or something like that and that i should scan it for spyware and viruses if i didnt make the changes and usually that only happens once in a blue moon but for the past few weeks it happens every time i open it and ive scanned my drive for viruses multiple times and checked the drive for errors multiple times but it always comes back with nothing. what might be causing this and do you have any suggestions on how to fix it so it stops happening?

Cannot start after an inuntended unplug

Submitted by thany on March 6, 2013 - 11:21am

Two things are going wrong here:

1) When the USB-stick is unplugged prematurely, portableapps.exe does not stop itself. Instead it crashes (but remains active).
2) After that, when reinstering the USB-stick and running start.exe, it doesn't start because a ghost portableapps.exe is still running (and consuming 100% CPU!!).
