[Closed] 12b2 killing explorer.exe shell

Submitted by keithc on August 21, 2013 - 5:29am

A good proportion of the time that I start or load the platform, the explorer.exe Windows shell process stops working. As in, desktop icons disappear, and the desktop stops responding to mouse clicks. I can kill the process and start a new one and all is fine again. I haven't been able to pin down exact circumstances why this happens sometimes but not others. What steps should I take to help find what is causing the issue?

I did a search, but found nothing.

BTW, the "Known Issues" link on the platform support page is dead.

Problem:
--------
1. Installed 11.2 fresh on a new drive
2. After install is complete, it prompts for update to 12.0 beta 2

3. Update completes to 12b2 and then autoupdate fails silently (with appropriate switch it throws error)

4. Manually checking for update results in the same error

Environment:
------------
1. No firewall (software or hardware - software firewall was configured with full access for this application but was disabled for the testing)

[11.2] No automatic updates

Submitted by wquatan on August 17, 2013 - 11:23am

Since a while, despite the option "Check for updates - On platform startup" is activated, Portable Apps never checks for updates although there are updates available.

Doing the check manually, the available updates are shown and can be installed without problems

Using PortableApps with Dropbox, Linux and Windows

So I have installed PortableApps at work in my Dropbox folder. Everything works great from that end. When I get home, I use Linux & Dropbox. Some Portable Apps are telling me that the path is different and that it is not recommended for me to "move" things like this.

Will I break anything if I answer "yes" to continue with the new path?

Can I map a "fake" Z: drive in linux to avoid these "broken" paths?

Any help is appreciated.

Upcoming Features Confirmed Coming In An Upcoming Release

The list ( https://portableapps.com/node/28593 ) is impressive.

"BAT file on start and exit for advanced users with platform env vars available"

Could I suggest to not restrict to BAT only?

It would be great to specify the full command (relative path to command and relative paths as arguments)

Not only

cmd /k something.bat

Something like:

"..\TccLe\App\tcc.exe" /D /@"..\TccLe\data\tcc.ini" /C "..\TccLe\data\PortableStart.btm"

Updater hangs

Submitted by Ackael on August 4, 2013 - 2:02pm

Hi, since a few weeks the automatic updater doesn't work any more:
After I click to update the apps that are listed it says "Connecting..." but nothing more happens.

So now I can only update from the website.
I already re-installed the PA platform but no success.
On my other computer I have no problems.

Furthermore I cannot open the list of other available apps. The error message says that this may be due to the updater running. In fact is the same program, which hangs too, so I have to kill it with the task manager.

Start.exe Required Me To Run As Administrator To Work

Submitted by penguin123 on July 30, 2013 - 11:37pm

I have been having a problem with the PortableApps Start.exe located in the root of my drive. When I double click to start the launcher, it gives me "The PortableAppsPlatform.exe file is not a valid PortableApps..com release and cannot be launched." However, if I run the program as an Administrator, it will launch with no problems. I have done a virus scan of Start.exe on Virustotal and it shows a 0/46 detection ratio.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium x64.
