PortableApps.com Platform

PortableApps.com Menu, Backup and Platform/Suite installer.

some nice to have features

Submitted by AtlanGonozal on June 13, 2013 - 4:31pm

There is a "fork" of the portable apps platform called geek.menu (on sourceforge). I used it for some time now, but it is not so actively developted like here.

but

It has some features really nice to have.

1. simple eject command (if I want a automatic incremental backup of the dokuments e.g.)
2. integration of TrueCrypt (with seperate behavior on "unknown" computers)
- automount TC volume
- able to show owner info
- run different menus

other features are already integrated but differently.

Saving of PA programs paf.exe files

Submitted by sweetnuttin on June 5, 2013 - 11:10pm

Hi all,
Quick question please,

Will the new version of PA installer allow the saving of the paf.exe files to another folder of users choice?

So when you checked for updates and any were found, it would give you the option to save to a folder of your choice the ...paf.exe file.

This would be a benefit to have the 'source' paf.exe file saved so if you wanted to install on more than one pc or drive, you only had to download once.

thank you very much!

PortableApps installer: Multiple [DownloadFiles] DownloadURL

Submitted by baniaczek on June 3, 2013 - 5:55pm

Hi everybody.

I'm trying to create installer with multiple (two) files to download. For example binary (one URL) and source (second URL), or both 32-bit and 64-bit versions together (two separate URLs).

Two. Two would be enough. Multiple - it is too much Smile

Is it possible to achieve the goals using existing scripts?
Any hint would be appreciated.

Best regards and thank you.

the pipe "|" brings up the PortableApps menu

Submitted by michero on June 3, 2013 - 4:50am

Hi guys,

on my PortableApps 11.2 platform I am facing a strange probleme I didnt have on the older versions.

After opening the applications for the first time (apps like Opera, Notepad++ or SuperPutty), when I click the "|" (pipe) button, the menu of POrtableApps is brought in the foreground. I have to close it, and come back to the app I was before. I was looking for the shortcuts leading the pipe to the PA menu, but I found nothing...

Is it a known bug ?

cheers,
Michal

Having trouble installing PortableApps on any USB stick

Submitted by cdanderson04 on May 29, 2013 - 1:08pm

Hey all:

First time poster and I enjoy PortableApps and love the work that has been done to make it easy to install and transport your most used apps. That said, I am having trouble installing PortableApps on some USB drives that I own. Their sizes are 1GB, 4GB, and 32GB. They are all formatted to NTFS. This is the message I get when trying to install:

The device you have selected to install to does not have enough free space for this app."

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the support.

Multiple Category

Submitted by esimha on May 29, 2013 - 6:49am

Is it possible to assign multiple category for the same application ?

Example: 7-zip is archiver (i need to assign in utilities as well as archivers, compressers etc...)

if not possible i am requesting this feature to be added in further releases.

Platform Symbol Change

Submitted by Lupp on May 28, 2013 - 5:42am

Is there a way to change the PortableApps platform symbol?

On Win XP SP3, on an Ubuntu with Wine and on Win 8 (ighit) I did not find a way to change the symbol to be shown after start for the PA platform in the tray(s).

Why?
I sometimes want to run 2 platforms (with different apps / versions) simultaneously - e.g. for retrospects into old documents and content exchange. It is a bit annoying then if both platforms are not distinguishable by their symbol.

7za.bat comes with Unicode BOM

Submitted by JCSalomon on May 19, 2013 - 10:29am

Cosmetic bug report:

When running PA.com backup, the following shows up on the screen:

D:\PortableApps\PortableApps.com\App\7-Zip>@echo off
'@echo' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

D:\PortableApps\PortableApps.com\App\7-Zip>title PortableApps.com Backup Details [DO NOT CLOSE]

It seems PortableApps.com\App\7-Zip\7za.bat was saved as UTF-8 with the BOM at file's start. A quick conversion in Notepad++ makes the program behave as specified.
