Update On Platform Startup appears not to be working

Submitted by lewisbd on July 29, 2011 - 12:50pm

I'm running Version 2.0 Pre-Release 2.1 of the Platform on a Toshiba NB205 netbook running Windows XP.

Under Advanced Options I checked the box to "Check for Updates... On Platform Start-up."

I exited the Platform then started it again.

The Platform loads, then minimizes to the System Tray.

Although I know (from checking manually) that no updates are available, nothing indicates that the application has checked for updates.

Whatever is happening, the messages that appear when I manually click "Manage Apps" | "Check for Updates" do not appear with this Options setting.

[Fixed] PA Updater shows on XP Home SP3 with no network connection

Submitted by RaggieSoft on July 28, 2011 - 10:52pm

I have an older XP Home SP3 laptop that I keep around (only 256 mb of RAM) simply so I have something I can do my work on without being powerful enough to run games.

Anyhow, when I ran PA menu 2.0 PR-2, the Updater comes up saying I have zero apps with updates available.

This topic is outdated. The current Updater will prompt for username and password when applicable, but I'll keep this here for archival purposes.

There are many different types of ways used to filter internet connections. This method is used at my public library (they don't block PA.c, but require username and password to use the internet, which is not prompted by the updater) and I'm assuming other places do this too. I'm not sure how this will work with other setups, but feel free to try.

2.0 fails to list all of my apps

Submitted by lewisbd on July 28, 2011 - 9:37am

When I went to look for my calculator this morning (SpeedCrunch Portable) I couldn't locate it in any of the categories or in my favorites. So I clicked on "Manage Apps" | "Get More Apps" but SpeedCrunch didn't appear in the list. So I checked my installation folders, and SpeedCrunch was there.

I haven't checked to see if any of the other apps I have are showing up in the new platform list, but I know for a fact that SpeedCrunch is not.

Has anyone else found this to be a problem?

Hello,

i'm using PA 2.0 Beta 5 Pre 2.
2 or 3 days ago i tried to update my PA.
After checking for updates the PA Updater told me, there is da required Platfor Update (3 MB). After clicking the "next" button the PA Updater trys to connect to the server. Some minutes later the message "Download Error: Send Request Error on file https://downloads.sourceforge.net/portableapps/Portable-Apps.com_Platfor..." appears.

Portable Apps 2.0 PR1; Automatic update - all files rejected by virus scanner

Submitted by fluff66 on July 27, 2011 - 7:22am

I just updated the the PR1 version and thought I'd try the auto update feature. Each file downloaded triggered the Trend Micro virus scanner though... Not something I have seen when manually installing/upgrading apps.

This is a work machine, and is pretty well locked down. So I have no access to any logs etc etc I am afraid....
