Ejecting instead of removing

Submitted by taconsta on April 21, 2009 - 11:02am

By using the ^_ symbol on the PAP platform, one gets the "Safe remove hardware" window with all USB hardware pieces, a Properties button and an "End" button (I have the German interface, so translation is approximative). Anyway, it's the same window you'd get by DOUBLE-clicking on the "Safe remove hardware" icon in the system tray. This is leading to confusion, especially since the default of the window is having the "Show components" unchecked and you might have 2 or 3 "USB Mass storage device"s. Then you have to click your way through menus, which is really annoying and error-prone.

Skinning and Transparency

Submitted by ilsabav92 on April 19, 2009 - 1:13am

Well I am trying to make a new skin for PA, but I,m having trouble with the transparency. This is what I have so far: http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff99/ilsabav92/Portable%20Apps/backgr... Unfortunately any parts of the image that are supposed to be transparent aren't. I have used both "magic pink" and alpha channels to try and fix the problem, but nothing works. Is it just an issue with the menu engine? Becouse a .png has an alpha channel.

Initial Install is hanging

Submitted by rainbird997 on April 17, 2009 - 4:42pm

Edited to Add: Nevermind. No problem. I'm just not patient enough.
==========
No sign of this problem in the forum or FAQ, so I'm guessing it's something specific to my configuration. Installing the Suite Standard 1.5.2, from a Windows XP Pro SP 3 machine, to a typical 16GB USB drive.

The installation ran for about 5 minutes, then hung at the point of "Extract: xul.dll... 100%". Installation process is locked up at this point; cannot even cancel it. Have to cancel it through the Task Manager.

Transfer of Documents

Submitted by mikelevy on April 16, 2009 - 10:36am

I tried to transfer my document files from my PC to PortableApps Documents folder on a memory stick. Now when I click the Documents folder in PortableApps I get a folder named Documents with subfolders named Documents, Music, Pictures and Videos. I then have to click on the subfolder named Documents to get my document files. This is annoying. I would like to go direct from my PortableApps menu to my documents. I have tried renaming each of the document folders in turn, but this did not help. Any ideas please? -Mike

Hidden icons return after update

qwertymodo's picture
Submitted by qwertymodo on April 15, 2009 - 4:09pm

I had hidden all of the OpenOffice.orgPortable icons except the main one, then after updating to 3.0.1 they all came back. I'm not exactly clear on how the renaming mechanism on the menu actually works, but is it possible to make it remember custom names of icons through an update? Not a huge problem, just a minor annoyance. Thanks.

Modify PortableApps installer to allow for installation to multiple directories

Submitted by Panarchy on April 11, 2009 - 1:35am

Hello

Please modify the PortableApps installer in order to allow installation to multiple directories.

This would be helpful if you were installing to different directories, or different USB drives.

Please add this feature!!!

Thanks in advance,

Panarchy

Suite icon can't be removed from XP

Submitted by dford3772 on April 9, 2009 - 5:23pm

When I try to eject the Portable Apps Suite all I get is constant error message

"Access violation at address 00488714 in module PortableAppsPlatform.exe Read of address 1DO8D70B"

Finally just took the drive out and tried it on my Vista box and it works fine
there. The XP machine still has the apps icon in the system tray and neither R.
nor L. clicks will produce anything except the above message. I know it is a lock of some kind but how do I remove the icon other than to shut down. There is nothing
in the Task manager.
