Drive keeps changing name (G, K, L etc.) from PC to PC

Submitted by flofies on April 9, 2009 - 12:47am

Hello, I've been using PA for 2 years now but I recently started to experience a change in the name of the drive which, - specially for XAMMP - causes me trouble to start Apache since the drive it's inserted in is not being read correctly; for example, if I installed and used the G: drive and insert it on another PC on the Secret drive, the PA is read as G: (on screen and in the Win Explorer) any ideas ?

Thanks in advace

How do I remove items from the portableapps menu?

Submitted by dingo on April 5, 2009 - 4:00pm

The portableapps menu picks up all the exe files from my applications folders and lists them on the menu. However, I have some folders containing several exe files and I don't want all of them listed. So a particular folder may have files:
main.exe, helper1.exe, helper2.exe
where main is the name of my application and helper1 ... are subsidiary exe files which need to be retained in the folder but I don't want them listed on the menu. How do I remove some (eg helper1.exe, helper2.exe) from the menu while retaining the corresponding exe files in my folders?

Adding programs to portable apps in subfolders

Submitted by Craysh on April 3, 2009 - 6:24am

I would like to add SharpDevelop to my portableapps menu but it doesn't seem to allow me to add it since the folder structure is like this:
SharpDevelop
-bin
--program.exe
I.e. the executable is a subfolder of the program folder.
I cannot change this since it requires this file structure.
Any help?

Suite performance on Win2k vs. WinXP & Vista

Submitted by preactive on April 1, 2009 - 3:20pm

I don't know if this has been talked about before because I dont really know how to search for it. But anyways when I plug my usb drive into my Win2k box and run portableapps.exe it says "loading" in the system tray for about a second or two and opens the menu. Now on other windows xp and vista boxen I open portableapps.exe and its says "loading" for about 2-3 minutes before it opens the menu? Is there anyway to get it to open like it does in windows 2000?

Thanks,

Michael M.

Redirection of Desktop Folder?

Submitted by solanus on March 30, 2009 - 2:11pm

I searched for this, but I didn't find anything resembling it...
Pardon my ignorance if this is sheer fantasy.

In Windows, the Desktop is a special folder in the profile folder of the logged-on user.
In a standard windows install, it is quite easy to redirect the folder in regedit in
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders - Desktop.

Platform or a collection of special portable editions

Hello

In comparison to virtual registry layers like U3, Ceedo, and PowerToGo; is PortableApps suite actually a software that needs to be installed at the USB Flash prior to installing portabel applications?

Or is is simply a matter of installing any of the portable versions of the applications referenced on site?

And would the data files of portable apps retain their format, so they could be copied back to a HD and be used for an actual HD-installed application if needed?

Thanks.
