PortableApps.comInstaller_0.91.3_English.paf.exe not Vista x64 compatible?

Submitted by rogerard on June 13, 2009 - 10:54am

FYI

I installed the new firefox .paf.exe just fine, but when I attempted to execute PortableApps.comInstaller_0.91.3_English.paf.exe, I receive the following error:

The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.

Dont know where to post this, but every time i try to install on the desktop, the startportableapps.exe file gets tagged and quarentined by symantec endpoint protection. I am in a small business network and dont control the software, and so cant exclude it, i won't be using this software any longer here.

Backup with Windows 7 RC

Submitted by ratcatcher on June 11, 2009 - 7:29am

Under Windows 7 RC, if I run backup with the "Show details" box ticked, the usual information scrolls up the window until the backup gets about halfway through.

At that point it gets corrupted with some text repeated and/or control characters appearing in the window. Sometimes the machine starts to beep (CTRL-G presumably). The window then closes though the backup appears to complete normally.

This didn't happen with the previous beta of Windows 7 and it doesn't happen with XP.

Manually adding non-PA app

Submitted by jeth on June 7, 2009 - 1:58am

Previously I installed a standalone app all PalMail by simply copying all of it's files into a folder with the same name. PalMail sowed up correctly on my PA menu and it exevuted OK.

But now I tried the same approach with AVZ, and although it runs fine it shows up incorrectly on the PA menu. Instead of showing the folder name (which matches the filename of the exe file) it shows the following:
???????????? ??????? AVZ

Eject problems with Windows 7 RC

Submitted by ratcatcher on June 6, 2009 - 9:47am

I'm not certain whether this is a hardware issue or to do with PortableApps, but I thought I'd post it here in case anyone else is experiencing similar.

I run PortableApps on an OCZ Rally2 Turbo USB stick (4GB). I use it on two laptops - one running Windows XP, the other Windows 7 RC.

On the XP machine, all works as expected and when I eject the drive there's no problem.

On the Windows 7 RC machine, what always happens is this:

Several issues installing/using on a new pen drive...

Submitted by CaptainStu on June 3, 2009 - 4:45pm

Hi guys,

I've been happily using PA on a 1GB Cruzer drive for a good few months now and I love it but I've installed quite a bit of stuff on there which has gobbled up the space so I bought a new, bigger drive - an 8GB Kingston Datatraveller which arrived today.

I took to the website, downloaded the basic suite (as I planned on copying and pasting all the apps from my 1GB drive) and it installs fine but then when I try to run it, it generates an error - the usual Windows guff and tells me to either send or not send an error report.

Formatted the drive and tried again. Same issue.

Large fonts looking bad

Submitted by el_baby on June 2, 2009 - 7:30am

I just installed PortableApps.com on my HP 2133 netbook (win xp home sp3) and when I configure Large Fonts, the apps list uses the same line space as regular fonts, so all text is cut in half.

I'll see if I find a way to attach a screen capture of this.

What is the true story ?

What is the relationship between the projects of John T. Haller, of SmithTech of Pam mod? Are co-related and always show the platform's apps are not unified, but John would not agree because when it comes to customization? Or are friends of a parallel project, not unified? What is the true history?
