Update Manager

Submitted by jmuncie on April 28, 2007 - 11:37pm

I would like to see an addition to PAM that would look at the version of the Portable Apps and then go the Portable Apps web site to provide a list of updates, if any that were available. With more apps being developed, this task is getting more time consuming to do manually. I search the forum but did not find anything on this topic.

My list of hoped for improvements...

Submitted by Tekzel on April 27, 2007 - 3:54pm

Hi, just wanted to start off that this is an amazing piece of work. Thank you for this. Of course we could all come up with a huge list of things we would like to see, I will keep this to just a few of the most important items for me.

1) I likes my portable apps Smile I have a bunch. The ability to group the apps on the menu by categories would be amazing.

Folders

i want to make so the music, pictures, all those folders, instead of being inside of documents, is in the root directory, because i access them a whole lot it is a big pain to go into the documents folder and then into the folder i need, i tried moving but then when i launch portable apps it makes new empty folders, with those names.

Portable Apps Menu : Dr Watson under Windows 2000

Submitted by Zinette on April 24, 2007 - 4:34pm

When I use PortableApps, PortableAppsMenu doesn't run under Windows 2000 SP4.
Dr Watson write this error : L'exception générée était c0000025 à l'adresse 7848CC94 (RtlTraceDatabaseEnumerate)

Does PortableAppsMenu run under Windows 2000 ?

I use PortableApps Standard.

Other Portable Apps, like Firefox or Thunderbird run normally.

Thanks.

Disallow multiple instances

Submitted by Bruce Pascoe on April 20, 2007 - 3:00pm

The PortableApps Menu will currently allow an arbitrary number of instances to start. This means that if I double-click StartPortableApps.exe (I often do this instinctively to show the menu, since I used to do it with PStart whenever it was more convenient than clicking the tray icon). Instead, the menu should check for an existing instance, and if one is found, just tell the existing instance to show the menu.

Vista-style folder layout?

Submitted by Bruce Pascoe on April 20, 2007 - 2:02am

Under Vista, the Music, Pictures, and Video folders aren't subfolders of Documents, but are instead sister folders. It'd be nice to have the same layout with PortableApps. Perhaps you could make Documents, Music, Pictures, and Video subfolders of the same folder, e.g. "Personal Files". The Vista layout really is superior.

Eject button missing?

Submitted by Bruce Pascoe on April 17, 2007 - 11:57am

In the official screenshots of the PortableApps Menu, there are two buttons on the bottom right: Close, and something else (looks like an Eject button). Yet, after installing the menu on my 2GB Sony MicroVault, all I see is the Close button. What's up?

800x600

Submitted by Bruce Pascoe on April 17, 2007 - 11:25am

Granted, I'm probably the only person in the world still running at this resolution, but I figured I'd bring it up anyway. At 800x600, the very top of the PortableApps menu gets cut off, which doesn't look all that nice. Any possibility you could shrink it a bit, John? I personally think it's too big for a "portable" menu, anyway. Wink
