Quick & Easy Launcher

Since there seems to be fair amount of requests for help on creating launchers.
Here is a quick way to do.
Once PAM 1.1 is released this will not be needed though.
1. Download this batch converter. (Its freeware I found it using google)
http://www.hollmen.dk/files/batcom10uk.zip
2. Copy this to a text file and rename it to {appname}.bat
START ..\{AppName}\App\{foldername}\{exeName}.exe
this is the relative path to your exe from the PAM folder you will place your files and launcher in.
3. Edit the path to fit your path and exe name.

Closing the App

Submitted by thomas175 on January 12, 2007 - 1:32pm

I have sucessfully (I believe) installed PortableApps to my USB flash device. I cannot find a way to close the App after I am done using it and before I Safely Stop the USB. The programs I installed run fine, no problems.

How do I close the PortableApps other than going into Task Manager?

Mutli Monitor Display Problem

Submitted by WORMSS on January 12, 2007 - 1:16am

Main Suggestion

  • Hello, i have my Start Menu on my Left hand Screen [not primary] but PAM opens on my Right Hand Screen, [primary]

the way the screens are set up are nessisary so changing primary/secondary/tercery order around is not an option

is it possible in an upcomming version to either

    • have PAM to have an option to decide which screen [if multi monitor is detected] or
    • Default on the screen that has the Start Menu?

[the 2nd option is probelly the most feasable idea]

include POP3/IMAP email checker?

Submitted by moronoxyd on January 11, 2007 - 11:33pm

A little idea I had just now: What about adding an email checking functionality to the Menu?

Nothing fance, just checking one or more POP3/IMAP accounts in the background every x minutes and giving some optical feedback if new mail arrives (animated trayicon, litte popup).

That would eleminate the need to have my own email program or a separate checker running all the time.

Delete Extra .exe's?

Submitted by garand on January 11, 2007 - 9:31am

I like the format of the portableapps suite but certain apps i install(programming stuff, etc.) Have more than one exe in them. I only want the program exe to show and i would like to rename them without changing the file name. Is this coming soon?

PAM theme customizability?

Submitted by chicken78 on January 10, 2007 - 9:01pm

Hello,
I'm a big fan of the PAM and PortableApps.com appliations, i use them on a daily basis during school and at home. I was wondering if any of you could tell me how to edit the PAM theme from the red, silver and white with the PA ad on the top. Ive already downloaded NSIS as I changed my PFF splash screen (Check it out Here) Id like to change the PAm theme to something similar to what my PFF splash looks like.

Thanks to anyone who can help,
Andrew

Portable Apps Menu - Open Office

Submitted by gblinckmann on January 10, 2007 - 5:58am

Would there be any way to have all of Open Office show up as one item? I remember it working this way on U3 drives and I preferred it since I don't usually use Open Office off of the thumbdrive. It's really, really handy to have when you do need it, though!

Oh, by the way, the quality of the PA Menu, the way it works, and the integrated backup made me switch off of U3 to this. Great work!

Just suggestions for the Portable Apps Menu/Suite

Just a boatload of features and other things I suggest to be added/integrated with the Portable Apps Menu.

1. Have a little feature that can restrict files on all the drives (including the thumbdrive that the menu runs off of.) to launch only using the apps in the menu.
(similar in concept to AppSnapper ( the link: http://software.u3.com/Product_Details.aspx?ProductId=244&Selection=8&La... )

Also with this feature make it easy for other to write scripts to use the feature with their own Portable apps.

Note: AppSnapper costs some money.
