I love portable apps. I have had problems ejecting it however. I have Vista at home and XP at work. It will work fine at work, but when I use it at home, the eject botton will not work and I have to kill it in task manager. Any thoughts?

I have been using PStart for a while, as I have had a U3 smart drive with non-U3 apps. I am slowly shifting away from the U3 platform, but I am finding the PStart menu and settings somewhat boring and... well... not very useful.I want to switch to the menu but... is it possible to use a PStart settings file I have been using and modifying in the menu? Also, does the menu have folders like PStart?

I found this by looking around and bringing together a bunch of info. this works with .exe and .bat. It is a pretty long process but i have not found a case where it did not work like has happened with a bunch of other processes.

AGIAN IT IS VERRY LONG BUT TO MY KNOWLEDGE UNBREAKABLE, so set aside some time ot do it.

I've been trying out some apps in the portable apps suite on a laptop and on an USB thumb drive for a while.

Here's some feedback/requests concerning the PortableApps Menu (which perhaps has be said before, but if so might be worth emphasizing):
- option to disable fade out when not focused
- add tray icon context menu with an option to close the menu
- allow minimal mode: no padded red skin, one column of options (only text in small type, no icons) and one column of links to apps. It needn't be much wider than the start button in Win XP really.

I installed a program called Money Manager EX Portable to play around with. It works with zero problems, but the only issue I have is on the menu it has the exact name of the .exe file. The menu also put a link to the uninstaller, so I ended up deleting that .exe and it's .dat file, which fixed that issue.

I was just wondering if for the new version in the making, that renaming progams on the menu is possible?

I've got win2000 sp4.
I've installed v1.0 and the v1.0-1.1 patch.
When I run the StartPortableApps.exe I get an error from Explorer.

Program Error
Portableappsmen.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows.
You will need to restart the program.
An error log is being created.

Of course I've no idea where this log could be.

Can't see any relevant event viewer log either.

It does work in win2K?

I have added few application (some of them written by me) to the PortableApps directory. Is there any way that I can control which applications show up in the menu?

For example I'm using Opera@USB. The problem is that there are a couple of exe files in the directory and the menu picks all of them up. Is there a config file that can be put in the app directory that can specify what should be obtained and what not?

Another helpful thing would be if one could configure the name of the application via same configuration file.

Not sure if this has been discussed, im new here and didnt see anything offhand, but It would be cool to have a changeable skin for the popup taskbar icon. I'd like to change the color to a blue or black instead of the red...if this is already discussed, please delete this post!

I just noticed today that the drive space bar doesnt work on my Linux PC.
I have a 1GB stick and it shows "302,5Mb free of 323MB". I have ca. 323Mb of free space on this USB drive.
And somehow the menu doest fade away after I clicked on it to launch something.
Just to let you know.

The Autorun.inf file in my USB's root directory does not seem to have an effect on the computers I insert the USB drive into. It does not change the icon for the drive with the one of the PortableApps Menu icon, and the drive doesn't get assigned the label name.

I have tried this mainly on 3 machines and the pattern I'm seeing is that the first time you insert the USB drive into the computer everything shows up ok (meaning the settings are being read from the autorun.inf file), but on subsequent insertions the settings aren't read.
