Doesn't seem to be a page for the menu/launcher

Submitted by alanbcohen on December 29, 2006 - 1:16pm

I've been looking for a page that describes the menu/launcher app under applications. I was curious about a forum posting that referred to the launcher looking down afolder and selecting EXE files.

Specific question; just EXE files? Why not other executables? like COM or BAT? In the past, I've even used BTM files on 4DOS.

The ability to use BAT files would be handy for getting arond the scripting problems noted with multiple EXE files in a directory.

Auto Startup of PortableApps Launcher Menu

Question:
You guys/girls are so far ahead of me it’s ridiculous. I’m new to PortableApps and the forum but I’ve been hooked on all I’ve read so far. I've searched first for an anwser prior to posting, but I might have missed it. Excellent site and program. Thanks, everyone!

I have a simple question on what I hope will be a simple task:
“When I insert my FlashDrive, I want the Portable Apps menu to auto start-up and display or at least load to the minimized tray. I experimented with the creation of an autorun.inf insertion into the root of the Flash drive, but it didn’t work. I’m running WinXP on my Desk and Notebook PC and would like to avoid opening windows explorer and double-clicking on Start PortableApps.exe to get the menu to load.”

Autoplay errors

Submitted by DavidRS on December 27, 2006 - 5:36am

I have a flash drive, running the PortableApps Menu on launch. However, when I select the icon, it asks me what program to open with.

First screen: I selected the selected icon.

Second screen: how do I stop this coming up?

My AutoPlay script is as follows:

[Autorun]
Open=Portable Apps\PortableApps\PortableAppsMenu\PortableAppsMenu.exe Portable Apps\PortableApps\PortableAppsMenu\PortableAppsMenu.exe
Action=Start PortableApps
Icon=Portable Apps\PortableApps\PortableAppsMenu\PortableAppsMenu.exe

Closing PortableApps Menu

Submitted by ackerberg on December 22, 2006 - 4:43pm

When the menu is open on my screen I see an "X" on the bottom of the menu presumably for closing it? When I click on the "X" nothing happens. The only way I can close the menu is to open Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Delete) and terminate the menu. Is this the way I am supposed to close the menu? Should something be working so that the "X" works? Everything else seems to work fine except upgrades are very slow and you need much patience.

menu just won't work on my PC

Hello !

I am quite happily using pstart, but I thought that I could switch to the basic version of the menu ...
So I downloaded the stuff and installed it on my usb key... it just doesn't want to launch on my PC with windows NT pro...
I tested it on other PC's and it works fine ...
On my PC I get an error message "windows has generated an error application will close ...

Any suggestions ?

Working Directory

Submitted by Vytautas on December 18, 2006 - 9:14am

Could the new and upcomming version also include the setting of the working directory as currently programs like putty do not read their settings properly as the working directory is not set to . (the directory where the exe resides), but seems to be set to the directory where the menu app is located.

Install to PC

Hello Group;

I just found a feature of AutoStart that I realy do like. You can install it to your PC. Then on start up the icon is already in the system tray. You plug the drive in and you are off and runing.

Is this feature avaliable with Johns. I know you can make a short cut but on net worked drives on start up the shortcut does not seem to work after a cold boot. The AutoSart featue does.

I am asking about this because not all of us run a PC where the autorun feature works.

I just installed the portable apps menu. When I click on documents/music/etc icon nothing comes up. I am not sure how to save documents to these folders so I can access them on the go later. Additionally, when I click the backup folder nothing happens. Any help for a newbie would be great. Thanks
