LibreOffice Portable

Ooo to LibreOffice

Submitted by chrizio on February 1, 2011 - 3:09pm

OOo Portable installed on pen drive.
With introduction of LibreOffice the PortableApps.com
doesn't seem to maintain OOo.
I have an impression, if I want to have the newest version,
here is 3.3.0, I need to switch from OOo to Libre.

How is the best procedure for changing my OOo Portable 3.2.0
to Libre 3.3.0?

Libre Office in Spanish or Catalan?

Submitted by Hemin on February 1, 2011 - 5:24am

Hi,

It's strange that Libre Office don't have Spanish included on the available languages. It's because the Libre Office don't support Spanish yet, or this portable version is compiled without Spanish? (I prefer Catalan but its less common!).

"LibreOffice Portable is a multilingual package that includes support for Czech, Chinese (Simplifed and Traditional), Danish, Dutch, English, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Korean, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese and Russian."

speed , unit , menu

Submitted by DLPA on February 1, 2011 - 12:48am

I installed LOP on 4 gb usb flash.

1. SPEED

Is there anythingelse I can do to make LOP run faster?

I have done these:

The JavaRE is UNchecked

Memory> Undo> Step is 20

Memory> Graphic Cache> Use for LOP is 128 mb
Memory> Graphic Cache> Memory per object 20 mb

Cache for inserted object> Number of Objects> 20

2. UNIT

For LOP-Writer the Measurement Unit is Millimeter. But, Why the value can not be set to, say, exactly 5 mm ?

3. MENU

The unavilable menu is light green. Can it be changed to other colour, say, dark gray ? Or, is it only on my computer?

How much slower is LibreOffice Portable...

Submitted by saronno on January 31, 2011 - 2:11pm

...compared to the installed one (in a Windows 32 or x64 environment)?

I suppose the installed version is faster (at least when starting up), otherwise what would be the advantage in installing? :]

Anyway, I'd like to know for sure whether there is an actual technical reason for that and also, in case there is, how much is the... price of portability in terms of performance.
Supposing, obviously, that both the installed and portable versions run from the same local hard disk.

LOP Calc v3.3.0 german: Problem: format a cell for a date

Submitted by knipsmoped on January 31, 2011 - 1:45pm

I tested LibreOffice Calc Portable 3.3.0. When I started LOP Calc i got a info to install JRE. But there is Java 6 Update 23 on my system (no portable)!
If a cell is formated for a date in "TT.MM.JJ" format (like "31.12.10") the date is not displayed correctly. It is displayed as "TT.12.JJ". If I change the format to "DD.MM.YY" it displays correctly, but this "user-defined format" is not available in the list of date formats.
With the installed version of LibreOffice the date is displays correctly. So I think it is only a problem of the portable version.
Have anyone a idea?

LibreOffice too slow for flash drive use?

Submitted by NCL on January 28, 2011 - 9:42am

Running LOP on flash drive is too slow for use. Is anybody else seeing this? Is anybody able to run this on flash drive w/o lagging - Typing, toolbars, menu items all take up to about 5 sec to respond. I started mentioning this in this post in this node: https://portableapps.com/node/26448, but thought this may need it's own topic.

Spaces in folder names

Submitted by saronno on January 28, 2011 - 5:39am

After installing LibreOfficePortable in the very same location, "C:\Program Files (x86)\Portables", where OOoP320 is still installed and running (so there is no "long paths" problem) together with many other portable applications, I found out it refused to start because of the spaces in the path.

I momentarily bypassed the obstacle buy moving the LOPortable folder in C:\, but this is not a place where I like to put applications.

Options not being remembered

In Portable LO Writer View Options, when I change the Horizontal & Vertical Ruler to be set in inches it stays set only until I close LO Writer then next time I open Writer the go back to char and line.

Launch1: Launching LibreOfficeWriterPortable.exe directly from within a Truecrypt container on a USB hard disk, not from portable apps platform.

Launch2: Launching LibreOfficeWriterPortable.exe directly from C: drive in C:\temp\LibreOfficePortable, not from portable apps platform.
