Major Pidgin Portable Problem

Submitted by eltonbrad on February 16, 2008 - 8:24pm

I tried to open Pidgin Portable just now (it's the latest one). I get as far as entering my MSN details, after I click on OK, it brings up the Pidgin Portable windows, but with nothing in them. It freezes instantly and then comes up with the following error message:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pidgin has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience.

PuTTY: Moving from SecureCRT: SSH2 public keys

Submitted by v4ixapdbm on February 13, 2008 - 10:33pm

Basically, I want to ditch non-portable, closed SecureCRT and start using PuTTY. I've got a bunch of SSH2 public keys in SecureCRT format.

I would like to import the SSH2 public keys into the putty.reg file. Any method to do this would be easier than reverifying everyone's fingerprints.

If the key on the remote computer is in the form of:

ssh-dss {public key all on one line}

then, SecureCRT simply reformats it like this:

---- BEGIN SSH2 PUBLIC KEY ----
{public key from above, wrapped 68 characters per line}
---- END SSH2 PUBLIC KEY ----

Pidgin/Gaim Logs

Submitted by Devo on February 9, 2008 - 6:03pm

I have been using portable gaim for awhile now on my usb drive. I like the fact that the apps are self contained and don't really install anything anywhere. Anyways, I've been using the logging option and like the fact that the logs are backed up in the data folder on my flash drive. But now that I'm going to install it on my computer, is there any way I can change the location of where the logs are stored? Is this even possible?

PuTTY Connection Manager

Submitted by NiMhurchu on February 2, 2008 - 9:44am

I have just stumbled upon PuTTY Connection Manager, an application which allows having multiple tabs, i. e. simultaneous PuTTY sessions open at the same time.
I am wondering whether this useful piece of application can be provided within a portable application?
I see one problem: PuTTY Connection Manager needs Microsoft's .NET Framework installed on the computer. Maybe a portable installation routine could check whether the framework is installed and, if so, display a question whether it should be installed or not. Just an idea.
If it's not possible, here's the link for you PuTTYers:

Miranda: Point to background picture on flash drive

Submitted by bobbismal on February 1, 2008 - 7:52pm

Is there a way that I can place a background picture on my flash drive with the miranda portable files, and have it work no matter what the drive letter is at that time? On one PC the path might start with E: but the next PC the flash drive might be H: and I get an error when it tries to load the background image.

Thanks
Bob

Miranda: Plugins not seen

Submitted by Jakubmal on January 28, 2008 - 1:05pm

Some plugins can't be seen in Miranda Portable version 0.6.8.
Examples:
clist_modern 0.7.100.35
tlen 1.1.0.0
bosskey in newest version.

I know that 0.6.8 isn't newest version of miranda and probably these plugins are newer. Am i right that this is the cause of problem. Is this problem unsolveable?

Thanks in advice!

Can anyone tell me how can I have the same profiles, plugins, skins etc that I have on my installed miranda in my portable one???

BTW, the installed one is the up to date version, not the same version I have as portable... and is on Win Vista.

Thanks in advance!

A bug and a brief instructions to use with Putty Agent with a little coding newbie guide.

Submitted by Crispy on January 5, 2008 - 7:09pm

I personally tend to always use keys for logging in and only start putty via the putty agent. Also I did not like the behaviour of putty portable where the last putty window is closed you need to run putty portable again. Behviour that puttys sessions are in the registry all the time the agent is running is what I wanted.
Also being nicely portable it allowed my to store my private keys, and sessions on a truecrypt volume for security reasons.
