false positive? Vundo.gen.42 found in Pidgin Portable

Submitted by Jan_HJT on March 21, 2008 - 8:57pm

Today I testet the 'Norman Malware Cleaner':

http://download.norman.no/public/Norman_Malware_Cleaner.exe

The scanner told me, that it found Vundo in Portable Pidgin:

X:\PortableApps\PidginPortable\App\GTK\lib\gtk-2.0\2.10.0\engines\libthinice.dll

So I decided to double-check the file with:

Pidgin and Pidgin Portable problem

Submitted by grey88 on March 20, 2008 - 11:26am

I have updated to Pidgin Portable 2.40 and have been having a very weird problem...

1st of all, it basically seems like whatever settings were active on the individual servers is how things appear under Pidgin.

I tried to use the feature of combining my friends' multiple account listings into "single friend" status using the expand feature. I also tried putting users into personalized sections (Rocky Horror being one of them)... Then the third issue, I had enabled a smiley pack called Pidgin-original (which had the smileys from myspace as well as MOST of the other IMs)...

Submitted by flyingeagle_83 on March 19, 2008 - 4:11am

Hi,

im using pidgin-portable on my Windows desktop machine.
Now i've installed ubuntu on my notebook and also want to use pidgin on this pc.

Is it possible to integrate pidgin-linux into the directory of pidgin-windows?
When I mount my mobile haddrive to the Linux-machine I want to start the Linux-pidgin and mounting the harddrive to the windows machine I want to start the windows-pidgin.

On both OS I want to use the same contactlist and so on.

Martin

Pidgin: Question for John, launcher ini, directory restructuring

Hey, in the readme included in the source for Pidgin Portable, it mentions the ability to restructure the directories for the launcher using PidginPortable.ini placed in the same folder as PidginPortable.exe, but it doesn't explain how to do it. I'm trying to restructure it for use on a U3 Smart Drive, and it currently works, but for the U3 drive to recognize it (mostly for upgrading purposes, retaining settings through an update), I need to structure the directories like this:

Data
-->>DefaultData
-->>GTK (putting the GTK directory here would allow skins to be retained)
-->>GTKLegacy

Pidgin: Spellchecker issue -- no longer underlines misspelled words

Submitted by Arphahat on March 6, 2008 - 10:04am

I installed the latest version (Pidgin 2.4.0) and, even though the "highlight misspelled words" checkbox remains checked, it does not mark the words as misspelled.

Come to think of it, I cannot be sure that this has ever worked since I moved to the PortableApps version. Is there something other than just Pidgin I need to install for this to work? For the non-PortableApps version, I had installed aspell and an English dictionary... do I need to include that on my USB drive as well?

Pidgin: Can't Resize text areas

Submitted by wingmanjd on March 3, 2008 - 11:48am

I'm using the newest version of Pidgin Portable (v2.4). When I double click on a contact to begin a chat, I am no longer able to change the size of the text area in which I type my messages. If I have no window up and I receive a message, the text area is not visible at all. Is this inherent to Pidgin 2.4 or the portable version?
