Pidgin: ALT + numeric code disabled?

Submitted by teknocide on October 16, 2007 - 10:32am

Hiya!

I'm wondering if you for some reason have disabled the ability to insert unicode characters like å ä ö by holding ALT and entering a code on the numerical keyboard (134, 132 and 148 respectively) or if this is a limitation of the underlying API.

I would really appreciate it if this functionality was added, although I know I'm not one to make requests or demands of any kind. Blum
Still, I find it quite a handy trick when you're away from your beloved keyboard..

Miranda: Changing fonts/colors of outgoing msgs

Submitted by wanzer on October 15, 2007 - 5:56pm

Hello everyone, I'm relatively new to using portable applications and I'd just like a little background info on Miranda Portable. My computer is going to be down for several months but I still need some basic programs to keep myself running.

Is it possible to change the fonts and/or colors of your outgoing messages, and if so is there some plugin I need to download first?

Master Password for Pidgin Portable

Submitted by Stretch 4x4 on October 13, 2007 - 9:51pm

Hi
I have been trying to look for a master password plugin for Pidgin. When I connect i have several different accounts and I don't want to type all the passwords but by the same token I dont really want them just saved for anyone. In my search I did find this which seems similar to what I would like: http://dooglus.rincevent.net/gaim/ so before it connects it asks for one password. The only thing is I am not sure how to install this in pidgin portable. Thanks Andrew

Miranda: Custom status messages in list

Submitted by limextreme on October 10, 2007 - 11:43pm

Hi! I'm just new to Miranda and it works for me. I was just wondering if there's a way/plugin/addon that would allow me to see the custom status messages of my contacts straight from the list? I find it tedious that I'd have to right-click on a contact and read the status message there. I've tried the Miranda community but my search wasn't able to come up with relevant results... Thanks!

PuTTY vs Bitvise Tunnelier

Submitted by wraithdu on October 10, 2007 - 10:59am

I'm brand new to SSH tunneling. I just got a CopSSH server set up at home and I've tried both PuTTY and Tunnelier to make my connections. Both work fine. I was curious what others' opinions are as to which may be the better client. Tunnelier uses a local SOCKS proxy to do its port forwarding, PuTTY does not say (but I think it's a SOCKS proxy as well - anyone know for sure??).

Tunnelier does have a maintained portable version is PApps format -

unofficial PidginPortable 2.2.1

Submitted by engineman on October 9, 2007 - 4:14pm

I got tired of waiting, and combined Pidgin 2.2.1 with the current version of PidginPortable to make my own PidginPortable 2.2.1. Here is a link to my blog post about it.

Please let me know if you have any problems using it. Hopefully this will work for people until John has enough time to put together an official release.

Miranda: from Version 0.4.0.3 to 0.6.8 problem

Submitted by RickW on September 28, 2007 - 1:49pm

Hi,

Didn't know I was so far behind. Smile

I backed up the entire old directory structure by renaming with an "OLD" suffix before the dot.
I installed 0.6.8 onto the USB drive into its own new folder and then tried to follow instructions to copy the "settings" directory from old to new. I can't find this so-called settings directory.

thanks,

p.s.: the new install is unicode. the old is ansi?
