Pidgin Blocked at college

Submitted by koryo on November 27, 2007 - 6:08pm

Greetings

i have recently been playing with Pidgin Portable at my college campus, and it appears (according to the debug logs) that the proxy blocks connections to the msn server. Does anyone know of another secure msn address i can connect to, or a proxy software that i can install at home so i can bounce the msn connection from the college, to my home then to the msn network.

207.46.28.93 (messenger.hotmail.com:1863) is blocked

Thanks in advanced

Hello everybody.

I don't know if this could be doable, but would there be any way of managing shortcuts such a hyperlinks received through Pidgin (for example) to be opened with Mozilla Firefox Portable instead of the default web browser (if it is installed, that is), without doing it the manual way ?

Thanks in advance for the replies.

no complaints here. thank you very much for Pidgin Portable.

fyi (in case you didn't know), 2.1.1 is fairly unstable in certain circumstances. and 2.2.2. fixes many stability problems.

Adding Yahoo! buddy to Pidgin on MSN protocol?

I use Pidgin with MSN protocol.

Windows Messenger Live currently allows users to add a Yahoo! address to friend list.
However, it doesn't work with Pidgin.

When I want to add a friend who used Yahoo! address, I got a message:
"johndoe@yahoo.com is not a valid passport account"

Is there a way to work around that? I don't have a Yahoo! account.

Thanks.

Pidgin: Chinese characters w/in Chat

Wow, what a fab program this is. I avoided gaim before, but this is so polished I can see my face in it.

For version 2.1.1:
Problem I'm having is that I can send Chinese text just fine. I can even receive Chinese text, except that it doesn't display properly. Just comes up as blocks when someone else sends it. Copying and pasting to a text editor lets me see it.

And why is it that the MSN component allows the funny pictures that others use regardless of where they appear? Shouldn't there be a space or some kind of delimiter that allows that?

Solution: Filezilla 3.x Portable

Submitted by uuencode on October 30, 2007 - 11:48am

Since from version 3.0 on Filezilla developers have been using the local folder of each Windows user for storing Filezilla settings and the portable edition is no longer updated there's a small workaround:

1) Download the zipped version of Filezilla 3.x.x from:
http://filezilla-project.org/download.php?type=client
[FileZilla_3.x.x.x_win32.zip]

2) Unzip it in a folder of your choice

3) Create an empty .BAT file: start_filezilla.bat

4) Open it by a text editor and copy/paste the following lines:

setlocal
set USERPROFILE=c:\

Do not saved all sessions to putty.reg

Submitted by pandamax on October 29, 2007 - 12:50am

I have installed PuttyPortable. I save many sessions on PuttyPortable. When I launch PuttyPortable next time, I see only first session which been saved last time and others are gone. I try to insert all sessions registry into putty.reg , but it doesn't work. Every time I close the program PuttyPortable, putty.reg has been changed and its size has 4Kbs. Does the registry file putty.reg is limited to 4Kbs?

I am using Windows XP and have an admin account. I do start it with PuTTYPortable.exe each time and didn't install Putty (not portable) on my computer before.
