ClamWin Definitions Doubling Up

Submitted by pbr on November 25, 2009 - 7:29pm

Has anyone noticed that there's something odd about ClamWin updates for the past couple days — that the definitions are downloading in duplicate? Seems like this would make for a pretty darn big daily.cld pronto. Here's my latest clamav report:

ClamAV update process started at Wed Nov 25 19:15:24 2009

ClamWin portable it is not really portable

Submitted by since2004 on November 16, 2009 - 6:23am

Hi all, I tried to use ClamWin Portable and noticed two problems:

- there is not a command switch on portableclamwin executable to call clamtray
- if I set clamtray.exe to start with windows it does not load preferences from portable folder
- there is not a switch in clamtray.exe to force it to load preferences from a file
- I was not able to locate the file which clamtray load settings from

with these problems clamwin portable it is not really usable, because you dont have it running in background for scheduled updates, scheduled scans, email notifications, and so on.

ClamWin: How do I keep my USB & Desktop Secure & Safe?

Submitted by lunar on November 15, 2009 - 2:10am

Greetings!

I'm new to using USBs and portable apps and I need advice.

How can I keep my usb & desktop secure & safe from viruses/malware?

Do I need to format the usb prior to using? If so, how?

If I want to erase everything and clean the usb to reuse it, do I need a special app for that or just delete?

I will be downloading Clamwin and SpyDLLRemover Portable, but do I also need something like Panda Vaccine for my desktop or any other program(s)? What about Autorun-Eater?

I've also come across an app that you can use to have a password for more security. Which is the best?

Upgraded CWP from 0.95.2 to 0.95.3 using in place upgrade [install over old version]

Previous Settings were lost
[i.e., Filters (files extensions to ignore), and
UNchecked "Unload Infected Programs from Computer Memory" (a risky default setting in cases of FPs]

Basically, ClamWin.conf in /data/settings was deleted.

Submitted by colonel-yum-yum on September 7, 2009 - 12:08pm

Hi all,

I have had clamwin installed for about two months now and never had a problem with it until now. I update the virus definitions everyday, often twice or three times a day. I went to update this morning and got the error below:

Could not start process:
".\freshclam.exe" --stdout --datadir="..\..\..\Data\db" --config-file="c:\docume~1\colonel\locals~1\temp\tmphwc-90" --log="c:\docume~1\colonel\locals~1\temp\tmpa7nlxj"
Error: Could not start process.
.\freshclam.exe
File does not exist.

ClamWin: how do i handle a virus found

Submitted by doozer on August 23, 2009 - 7:58am

I installed clamwin on a thumb drive, then after i updated the definitions, I scanned the thumb drive. A virus was found. I just figured that clamwin did what it needed to do to correct the virus problem, I ran it again and the same virus was found again. So my question is, what should I do?

the report read like this:
G:\Msinfo.msi: Trojan. Gadgo.20 FOUND
Scan Summary
Known viruses: 611120
engine virsion: 0.95.2
infected files: 1

Using the current version of KeePass?

Submitted by YmerejO42 on August 12, 2009 - 2:46pm

Any way you guys could make a PA launcher for the actual current version of KeePass Password Safe, Professional Edition? I'm not sure if it'll work, but if it would, it would be very nice. Since that's what I run on my home computer, I have to import changed from my Portable version to my home version, and that gets a little annoying. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
