Clamwin virus sig downloads

Submitted by anon_private on February 21, 2009 - 11:28am

Hi,

I have installed clamwin on a flashdrive.

The programmes asked me to download the virus signatures (main.cvd). The first attempt failed.

Q1 What is main.cvd?

Restarting the programme allowed a second server to be selected, but this was taking so long to download that I had to terminate.

Q2. When I retart clamwin, will I begin where I left off, or will it restart from the begining. That is, will it resume?

Q3. Is there a way of ensuring that I get the fastest downloads? When working on a public machine, I will need a fast download so I can check my flashdrive.

Moving clamwin on flashdrive

Submitted by anon_private on February 20, 2009 - 5:43am

I have just downloaded clamwin to a flasfdrive. I would like to create another directory on the flashdrive and move clamwin into this directory prior to installing the programme.

I note that winwget (used for download) has kept all the download information in its window. Will moving the programme on the flashdrive cause a problem?

Thanks

ClamWin: ClamAV main.cvd Update [FYI] 02/15/09

Just a note:
The main.cvd for ClamAV/Win/portable is updating from

49 to 50

If you have high speed access the most efficient way to do the update is to directly download the file from here:

http://www.clamav.org/download/cvd
after deleting your current main.cvd

If you allow it to update itself you will get a
43 MB main.cld instead of a nice compact 19 MB main.cvd

don't forget to delete your current daily.cld also if you use this method, the new daily.cvd is only 371kb

Remember:

delete
...\ClamWinPortable\Data\db\main.*
...\ClamWinPortable\Data\db\daily.*

and

KeePass: ini file location

I noticed the same problem as derousse described in the following topic
https://portableapps.com/node/15810#comment-100512

In the same topic Simeon gave this advise:

it should get moved from the /Data to the App/keepass folder wneh you start the App and back after you close it.

Maybe something got wrong and it now uses the KeePass.ini in the App/keepass folder. If you move it manually to the /Data/settings folder, it should be working the way its supposed to.

This works but there are two issues we should think of.

I have used Clamwin a few times now. Thought its has said it has never found a virus, many times it will say acess denied, does that mean i can still have viruses?
