ClamWin and AVG Picked Up Viruses

Submitted by eltonbrad on May 3, 2009 - 3:17am

Hi all,

Look, I have AVG AntiVirus Free 8.0 and the latest version of ClamWin installed on my computer. I have ClamWin scheduled to do a C:\ scan on Thursday nights and E:\ (my external hard drive) on Saturday night and AVG scans both drives on Friday night. This is what ClamWin came up with on my scan last night:

Submitted by PORT-APTS on April 29, 2009 - 2:06am

do I' need two AV programs ?

one A.V on my pc...and another a.v. on my usb drive ?

do I' need two a.v. apps ?

the "ClamWin Portable Support page" didn't mention if I' needed a portable a.v....if I'm using a local A.V. app.?

I' also checked the faq...I' didn't see any mention for two a.v. programs ?

KeePass: Bug

Submitted by Asiangotchi on April 19, 2009 - 1:03pm

There seems to be a bug with KeePass.

When I use PERFORM AUTO-TYPE in a flash object, like OMGPOP or w/e, it doesn't type in the username. It will simply just leave that part blank, press tab, and enter the password. Sometimes it doesn't even press tab, revealing my password in the username box. Lucky to know that there was no one around me there. Please fix this.

ClamWin: CWP vs Conficker

Submitted by arinlares on April 1, 2009 - 6:56pm

I need to go get my computer fixed (Conficker winged me, locked me out). I'm going to get it fixed, if possible this week, but have some concerns about re-infection. I've had my USB drives both plugged into my computer since Conficker.A was discovered, and realize that using CWP might re-infect my computer because I'm launching something off of the drive. Should I be concerned? What should I do? I might be able to get Norton Internet Security to scan my drive once I reconfigure that, but what if I can't? I know to turn Autorun off (if not exactly how.

I have to say that in the short time I have tried using this software that it has not stopped a single virus, detected any viruses despite having a couple on my system that AVG jumped on when I switched back to it.

Then I keep getting messages like... despite updating perfectly fine.

ClamWin: Does open source anti-virus work?

Submitted by dkulchenko on March 2, 2009 - 7:32pm

I've read a few articles that open source antivirus software is pointless, and just does not work. Their argument is that companies like Symantec, Norton, and others have dedicated security teams, while open source software like ClamAV only gets updated when people feel like updating it. Personally, I can't say I agree. What do you think? Here are the articles:
