Portable VLC 2.2.4, XP SP3 - I get initial splash screen but app will not start

Submitted by ac-portableApps on August 14, 2016 - 1:42pm

I am trying to run VLC Media Player Portable 2.2.4 on XP SP3.

I get the initial splash screen when I try to start vlc from the PA start menu but ... I never get the program interface. I do see an entries for vlc.exe and VLCPortable.exe in the Windows Task Manager.

I see in download.com that this version from PA should work on XP. So, I am asking for help here.

Thanks in advance.

[Fixed] MusicBrainz Picard v1.3.2 - in PicardPortable.ini

Submitted by El Tiburon on July 17, 2016 - 6:54pm

Hello Forum Admins and all other users,

Finally, I'm here, I like the art of PortableApps.com and the ultimate support.
I had in the past even portablized "MusicBrainz Picard" in my early days.

But I did not dare to publish it here, because I was afraid to do anything wrong with the licenses because my English is not so perfect.
Now I have found a bug in the current version of "MusicBrainz Picard v1.3.2"

VLC Media Player - Zooming

Submitted by eager on July 10, 2016 - 2:21pm

Hi,

I'm using VLC Media Player 2.2.1 in Windows 7.

I'd like to increase the viewing size of the video since it looks so
small on screen.

On YouTube, you can adjust the view settings but this is a video I
downloaded and want to watch (instructional stuff) but it appears
small as it does on YouTube but seemingly without the modification
settings in VLC Media Player that YouTube offers.

I Googled this and many results shared you can't zoom with VLC Media Player.

Is there any way to zoom?

TIA.

When I click on the VLC (2.2.2 rev2) link it brings me to a blank page. I tired it using IE, Firefox and Maxthon browsers. Same result on all three.

1px green line at bottom of VLC video output after latest update [2.2.2]

Since the update, I've been seeing a green line at the bottom of VLC's video output on every video. MP4 and MKV mostly. Found a QuickTime video and it did it, too. Found two AVIs and they actually didn't have the green line. They're also sub-HD, but I don't think that matters.

Just wondering if anyone else is seeing it and, if so, what if anything you were able to do about it. It's hardly noticeable after a minute or so.

Enabling web interface control, I can't find the hosts file in the VLC Folder

Essentially I want to be able to control vlc from another computer so my desktop connected to my LCD TV can be controlled from a browser on my tablet.

I got up to a step where I have to edit VLC's hosts file, but I navigated to the appropriate folder, but see nothing.

Is this a portable app quirk and should just install in locally?
