Music & Video Apps Support

I would like to run one of the media player apps on a USB drive, that has to be run on an older, slower computer. This computer already has MPC on it, and when it was transitioning between video clips on a playlist, it gave a one second MPC splash screen (or whatever it was called), before going on to the next video.

As stated by rganny here, my current MediaInfo package seems to display the first run dialogue. This should not happen as the shell integration boxes are ticked by default on a new install or users could inadvertently tick them on an update.
MediaInfo would clean up the mess itself if one unticks these options, or the launcher takes care of that, but only during a second run.

The latest updates (going back the past 2 months at least for me) to SMplayer portable app are triggering "false positive" reports in Kaspersky AV.

The Kaspersky warning claims that app can be used for malicious purposes and places the Kaspersky AV Suite into it's "warning mode" (non-green AV GUI background) until the portable app is either (1) removed from the PC; or (2) an exclusion/exception is entered into Kaspersky.

The Kaspersky AV scanner provides no other virus indications other than to nag me about SMplayer potentially being used for malicious purposes.

fre:ac appears to have changed the name of its settings file in 1.0.28 from config.xml to freac.xml

We were not aware of this change until a user advised us by email.

VLC 2.2.4 (current version here) has a serious bug that allows complete device takeover. This has been known by VLC for months, and a preliminary fix was included in v2.2.5.1 release back in January 2017. Why has the portable version here not been updated? If we users are to rely on the software offered here, it would be nice to be able to have confidence that security problems are addressed in a timely manner.

Audacity Portable creates a directory in AppData\Local\Audacity, which itself sometime contains session files. After closing Audacity these files aren't being deleted. Is it normal? If so, is there any setting I can change so that it creates these files and directories in the Audacity Portable "Data" directory?

I'm trying to update to Cdex 1.8.4, but am getting the following error:

I'm using Portable Apps version 14.4.1 on Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit.

Any ideas??

Norton reports this update has 'Trojan.GEN.2' and blocks the installation.

Every time I exit VLC Portable, the vlcrc (settings) file in Data\settings gets renamed to vlcrc.####, and the prefs won't get saved for the next session.

If I forcefully remove all these random files and just put a clean vlcrc file in the folder, VLC.exe opens fine - once - and then gets reset again.

If I open a video file as opposed to the .exe, the prefs get reset immediately. Even the Privacy and Network Access Policy popup reappears.

How do I get VLC portable to retain its preferences?

This came to my attention in a post on the Portable Freeware Forums ( http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=86025#p86025 ): Audacity leaves an empty folder in C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Audacity\Session Data

I checked and it's true. This is with Audacity 2.1.2.
