Essentially I want to be able to control vlc from another computer so my desktop connected to my LCD TV can be controlled from a browser on my tablet.

I got up to a step where I have to edit VLC's hosts file, but I navigated to the appropriate folder, but see nothing.

Is this a portable app quirk and should just install in locally?

I had installed and configured XMPlay Portable and added several plugins, skins and configs to it.
After last update ALL my custom data was just removed from \PortableApps\XMPlayPortable\App\XMPlay folder like it never was there.
That's really confusing, why such cleanup performed? It was done just after upgrade. Please remove cleanup action or add backup if you cannot just "not touch" additional files in XMPlay folder.

I've got Audacity 2.1.1 Portable. I have reinstalled it several times. (Downloaded paf and installed over previous installation.) It will not import WAV files. if I have it set to normalize files automatically. It stops on (Waiting for waveform to finish computing..) Reprots Stopped: Import complete. Running an on-demand waveform calculation. 0% complete. If I turn off normalize, it loads fine. And I can successfully run normalize after it is loaded.

I discovered the workaround while writing this.

I have just tried to use the Portable VLC Media Player to cut a short clip from a video, without success.

IS it possible to have a movie say an AVI with a VLC portable wrapper around so that people can just play the moving using VLC portable without having to let Windows decide which app is the best to play the movie?

I ask as I am experiencing problems with the users of VLC portable just clicking the moving on the memory stick and it playing with Windows Media player.

Certainly, the problem described below has nothing to do with the portability of the app. But maybe someone has a plausible explanation. In the past I have already several times tried in vain to download Youtube videos with VLC-Player. First, I copy the web address of the YouTube video in the Windows clipboard. Then I click in the VLC-Player on Media> Convert / Save ...Then I switch to the "Network" tab and add the web address with Ctrl + V. Then I go to the "Convert / Save".

I have been using VLC Portable for a while now. Merely as a stand alone media player on my PCs. Has never missed a beat until today. I decided to move all my portable applications into a folder of their own. VLC however, seems to not be liking this. I can no longer play mp3's or associate them with VLC.

On starting to view a .MOV video file, VLC shows the opening couple of frames, then freezes, holding the picture static. The audio meanwhile continues to play correctly.

The same video file plays perfectly well on Windows Media Player.

I'm on XP sp3, with latest version of VLS (2.2.1).

Any ideas whats going on here?

Under Effects I can adjust the bass and treble of a song but is there a way to then saves those changes in the song as a separate .mp3 file?

since some weeks it is impossible to update VLC to version 2.2.1. I can neither update via the PortableApps-updater, nor can I download it from the apps list.
I don't think I'm the only one who has this problem
