we can use a Linux PC (but only with a Guest account)
That is a wonderful solution for things which are
=> either installed already - and routine like internet access -
=> or to be used externally, with a web application using a browser window
now it seems there is no audacity WEB app, so it would be great to have "AUDACITY2go" on a USB stick or CDrom or DVD
how to get that?
does that exist?
is it "systemically" impossible to make that?
does nobody need that, except us ???
Every time I close Audacity, the "Portable Settings" folder becomes empty and all the settings reset to default.
Update1: I relaunched the PortableApps.com platform, and now it looks like Audacity saves settings properly. When I close Audacity, the "Portable Settings" folder disappears (not just becomes empty, like it did before) and then on the next launch all the settings are back. Still, I think the problem exists in the case when you just fresh-installed Audacity and haven't relaunched the platform yet.
I downloaded VLCPortable 2.1.2 from https://portableapps.com/apps/music_video/vlc_portable
I also downloaded VLC 2.1.2 32 bits and 64 bits (7zip no installer version) from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html
If I compare the versions from either portableapps to vlc ones, I have these information:
VLCPortable: 651 files, 250 folders; 72.3 Mb
VLC2.1.2-win64: 663 files, 242 folders, 97.9 Mb
VLC2.1.2-win32: 708 files, 245 folders, 98.7 Mb
So the portable version of VLC are about 30Mb fatter,
1/ how comes?
2/ Are they functionaly different?
I got a notice that an update for VLC was available today and I selected to have it installed.
The package v1.7.1.0 (according to header):
!define PORTABLEAPPNAME "VLC Media Player Portable"
!define APPNAME "VLC"
!define NAME "VLCPortable"
!define VER "1.7.1.0"
!define WEBSITE "PortableApps.com/VLCPortable"
!define DEFAULTEXE "vlc.exe"
!define DEFAULTAPPDIR "vlc"
!define DEFAULTSETTINGSDIR "settings"
!define LAUNCHERLANGUAGE "English"
Some alterations bug me...on W7U
like more cpu usage.
Where can I get vlc portable 2.0.8?
So I can revert back to where I was.
the green button wants to download version 208, but this seem not exist , only 207 on the server?
Hi all,
new to portable apps. I downloaded portable vlc to play a series of MOV files in my possession.
When I play these files I only have audio, no video. I have tried playing with the settings in tool/preferences, with no joy. I thought it may have been the files, so I downloaded the quicktime alternative codec. I can play these files successfully on my pc since downloading quicktime alternative through IE browser.
I'm running Windows 7 SP1 - 64bit.
Any help to get these files to work will be appreciated.

Steps:
1. Download extract
2. Launch program
3. Splash screen
Defect: program does not start.
Some suggested workarounds:
* Reinstall C++ runtime - done, both x86 and 64 with no effect
* Try running audacity.exe directly - no effect, nothing happens
Any suggestions?
I configured the microphone settings as per tutorial. When I press the recording button I cannot hear the source. I can see it dancing actively on the bar, but cannot hear anything.
Clicked "stop" and then "play" to hear the result - now I can hear the source perfectly well.
What have I forgotten? Thank you.
