VLC2.0.5 problems on windows installations

Submitted by i2hhj on January 13, 2013 - 11:28am

I have been editing a presentation of text, images and videos on a CD which should run under present and future windows versions starting from Windows 98. The programm "CDMenuePro" from http://www.cdmenupro.de/ has been used (30 days free trial version available) for this work. This has an imbedded video player which looks rather old and not accepts new compression codecs like MPG4.
Thus I installed VLC Portable 2.0.5 on this CD.
However there are problems when running a video from this CD.
under Windows 98 : not accepted by VLC Portable

VLC 2.0.5 will not install to local disk C:/Program Files

Submitted by gracegracegrace on January 13, 2013 - 8:27am

I downloaded VLC portable 2.0.5 and can not get it to install to my desktop computer. The error says I need to install it to C:/Program Files or its sub directories which I have tried several times with no success. I can get VLC Portable to install to my USB drive, but I thought we were supposed to be able to install it to our local hard drive also. I have a Windows XP SP3 desktop computer. Thanks in advance.

VLC Media Player - Not Playing Commercial Music CDs nor video downloaded by Ant. Media

Submitted by eager on August 22, 2012 - 11:51pm

Hi,

I notice when I slide a commercially bought music CD in and launch VLC Media Player that unlike MP3 or .wav files it doesn't pay the tracks. I click on Play, and Open File and nothing seems to make any of the tracks on the several CDs I've tried play.

Also, VLC Media Player is very inconsistent in playing downloaded video downloaded with Ant. Media.

It's not content from hulu or such sites. It sits there like the music CDs and just never plays no matter what I click on in VLC Media Player.

Any thoughts?

Thank you.

Audacity: Editing an mp3 file + exporting to .amr

Submitted by eager on July 27, 2012 - 10:32am

Hello,

I have no experience editing audio files. I would very much appreciate your help.

I'm using XP Pro.

I downloaded Audacity Portable version 2.0.1 from this site and extracted the files. I can open it and play music in it.

I located the section of the mp3 file I wanted to convert and read you're supposed to use the Zoom (magnifying glass) to somehow capture that section and then click Edit>Copy and then click File > New and save that track.

VLC 2.0 Playback is Degraded

I was attempting to watch an AVI video(codec 4cc: DX50) and the playback was very poor. It was a pretty dark video, and all of the dark areas were heavily pixilated. I thought it was just a bad video file. But then I tried playing it in Media Player Classic (ver 6.4.9.1) and the video looked pretty good. Out of curiosity, I installed the only other version of VLC Portable I had which is 1.1.11 and played the video, and it looked much better. Has anyone else noticed a degradation between VLC ver 1 and 2?
