The blog of the greatest IT magazine in Brazil just released an article on Firefox 3.1 beta 3 Portable.

http://info.abril.com.br/blog/downloaddahora/20090324_listar.shtml?156016

This is not the first time INFO released an article referring to PortableApps.com.

Last year there was a whole page featuring the entire PortableApps Suite.

Can launcher be set to open new Firefox window when app is running

Submitted by RandomGuy001 on March 23, 2009 - 10:46am

I was wondering if the Firefox Portable launcher could be configured to create a new window when the launcher is clicked and the app is already running, just like how it's done when it's installed. Currently it gives the "Firefox is open and not responding close the process" error, even with "AllowMultipleInstances" set to true.

Any ideas?

Phenomenal app by the way. Thanks for all the hard work!

Menu Editor extension gets "uninstalled" when drive letter changes

Submitted by Devo on March 20, 2009 - 3:46pm

I'm not sure what the problem is, but whenever the drive letter changes an extension (Menu Editor) no longer works, it says it is not installed. I must go to the Firefox extensions page and reinstall it. After a restart all my settings for that extension are restored. I was just wondering if anybody has experienced any problems like this or if anybody knows a fix.

settings not saved to portable drive

Submitted by plummet on March 20, 2009 - 3:41pm

I love having portable firefox, but settings like "store history" and changes to the chrome (i.e. "do not show statusbar" and "do not show home button") are either not saved to my portable device or are ignored. Also, firefox thinks i have just installed addons whenever i open it on a new computer. That is not a big deal but it may help pointout the underlying problem here.

If you need more information about these issues I am more than happy to test things out or give greater detail.

So, how can i make firefox remember my changes?

Thanks

How to disable automatic add-on installation?

Submitted by datort on March 18, 2009 - 6:39am

Hi forum,

i created a small presentation which is handouted on cd. it shows a website with an embeeded WMP (firefox plugin) and runs from cd with the portable version of ff.

my problem: when i insert the cd to a pc where ff is already installed, my portable version seems to be looking for add-on/extensions and displays a popup after starting that says "add-ons where successfully installed" or anything like that.

is there any chance of disabling this dialog? or prevent ff from searching for extensions maybe via command line option or in the config?

Adding Adobe Flash Player to FF Portable

Submitted by seanspotatobusiness on March 15, 2009 - 8:00am

I am using portable Firefox from my USB stick on university-owned computers. When I try to use Google Anayltics to determine usage statistics of a website that I am presiding over, all the images which should be graphs are replaced with green jigsaw pieces advising me to install a missing plug-in. I try to do this and I'm told that it cannot be done automatically and instead must be done manuallly. So I click on the 'manual' button and I am taken to the Adobe Flash Player download page. I download the file and then what?

Firefox is already running

So i used this http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/register-firefox-portable-with-default... to set my portable firefox as the default application for links etc. The problem i'm having, is when i try clicking a link inside my email, i get the message:

"Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system."

Memory requirements

FireFox 3.1 required so much memory that it cannot run correctly on this machine. For example, it cannot display gmail correctly, claiming that it does not have enough memory to run scripts. I ran this test on a laptop with 512 MB of ram and running Vista Home Basic.

The local library computers run XP in 256 MB.
