psapi.dll and FirefoxPortable.exe

Submitted by mstinaff on June 27, 2008 - 11:53am

My new flash drive has great read but abysmal write speed. To the point that running portable apps can be very very slow at times. So I fired up FileMon to see where most of the write activity was coming from in the hopes of then curbing it. Among other things I noticed FirefoxPortable.exe (from the latest 3.0, launcher version 1.5.14.0) is constantly looking for :\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\PSAPI.dll As in several times per second.

I copied in the latest verion of PSAPI.dll to see what would happen, and now FFP is opening PSAPI.dll for read several times per second.

Using Weave with FF3 Portable

Submitted by mvieira on June 26, 2008 - 11:45pm

Hello,

Wondering if anyone has had luck getting FFE & Weave (replacement for google browser sync) working. Currently it is working as expected on my home desktop, however, I'm not having any success logging into Weave via FF3 portable on my USB drive from my office computer.

I have removed the addon, re-nstalled multiple times but can't get by the login.

Anyone else tried it out yet?

Weave appears to be a great replacement for GBS.

Thanks in advance!

Firefox Peformance - New Twist

Submitted by guy.chamberlain on June 26, 2008 - 9:35am

I know there are several posts about this, but no-one seems to be describing the problem I now have. Not got the fastest USB so I had got FF2 working pretty well with session restore off and all the others mentioned.

Decided to try FF3 and it was v slow. Again tried all the tweaks and no improvement. Most problem was that after a page loads (any page, even one you go back one step to) lots of writing (5 secs after page loads and then writes for 15 secs) which freezes FF and most other apps on USB drive.

Manually install Adobe Flash support?

Submitted by JeepFreak on June 25, 2008 - 8:52pm

I use FireFox Portable at work because I don't have the necessary permissions to install the non-portable version. I want to add Flash support, but I don't have the necessary permissions to run that installer either.

I would install it from home (beauty of Portable Apps), but I run Linux at home! So, does anybody know how I can manually install Adobe Flash support? I'll try it in WINE, but what are the odds that that will work? Smile

Thanks,
Billy

I've noticed abundance of messages here with a similar title.

Well, someone on IRC mentioned coding a script to install Flush, I mean, Flash to FireFox Portable.

EDITI made a package. It is in my download directory
@PTMB: I'd like to see your script. I sent you my contact info. But, alas, I will lack the ability to reply until Monday.

Here's the updated code:

Scenario:
Someone stole your USB thumbdrive, which contain some sensitive data, including some passwords and/or session informations. The thief could then access some of your accounts you previously logged in.

Solution:
The default Firefox's behavior is insecure for a roaming profile like the one used in Firefox Portable. Here are my recommendations:

Transfer Settings From Portable

Submitted by pharmnatr on June 24, 2008 - 10:18pm

Hi All,
Since FF3 came out, I've been tinkering with settings and extensions till I was happy with FF3 using portableapps. Since I am now ready to install FF3 on my desktop, is there a way to take the customizations I've worked on in FF3 portable apps and transfer them to FF3 on my desktop without starting over and dl'ing all those extension and customizations all over again?

Thanks in advance,

Al
