Speeding up Firefox on slow Flash.

Submitted by BigglesPiP on August 11, 2007 - 7:47pm

I've been experimenting with ways to speed up firefox Portable on slow Flash drives and the slow computers at Universities etc.

Here's my tricks:

Slow Flash:
-Remove any extensions and themes you don't use on the go, save them for your PC. This boost start up times drastically.
-Disable the disk cache, it's on your USB memory, its use is clogging up the drive for other read write operations firefox will want to do. This is done in "about:config", set "browser.cache.disk.enable" to "False". Keep the memory cache.

Firefox is already running, but is not responding...

I am trying to use FF portable as my default browser (Vista Ultimate 64bit). Everything works fine (add-ons, etc), except that if I try to open a _local_ html file I get the error message:

"Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system."

I can open a local file only if firefox is not already running. Below is my FFP ini:

[FirefoxPortable]
FirefoxDirectory=App\firefox
ProfileDirectory=Data\profile
SettingsDirectory=Data\settings
PluginsDirectory=Data\plugins

How do I start "CBI\index.html" in FFP

Submitted by cubmaster on August 9, 2007 - 6:03pm

I am putting together a CD of MSDS files(.pdf) in a web page format. I need to have employees put the CD in and start "CBI\index.html" through FF Portable. All of our computers have autostart disabled. Can I use a start CD app file to do this? Consider that there are about 40 computers at my company and the CD drives are not the same drive letter.

Upgraded to 2.06 and lost settings/add-ons, etc.

I'm not sure what happened. I've been using (and LOVING) Firefox Portable for several versions and upgrading without a problem, but this time the update seems not to recognize my previous settings. They're still there in :\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\Data\profile, but they're not being used -- I'm just getting the default look.

Flash and Shockwave Problems

Submitted by LittleUnkn0wn on August 8, 2007 - 10:05am

I've found the instructions for installing them on FF Portable here, and I tried to follow them. I get errors downloading the Flash extension and I wasn't given the option to redirect the Shockwave installation. So I tried the "more geeky" instructions, but I couldn't find any of the files specified. Any help?
