Firefox 1.5.0.6 slow

Submitted by paladin2006 on September 19, 2006 - 1:03pm

I used a previous version of FF on my Kingston 1GB Elite and it was fast; you could barely tell you were running off USB flash. It got noticeably slower so I decided to rebuild my Kingston. I started from scratch using 1.5.0.6 and it is slow. I noticed that the cache was set ot 50 MB so I set that to 0 to minimize writes; I thought that John had set the default to 0 on previous builds. I also turned off auto updates. Start up time is also a minute or more. It used to start up in a few seconds before.

The only extensions are DOM, Google Toolbar and Scrapbook.

Saving a bookmark takes minutes! Sometimes FF becomes "not responding" but will eventually come back.

Versions--Firefox versus Firefox Portable

Submitted by teacher24_70 on September 18, 2006 - 7:03pm

I know that it's easy to check to see which version of Firefox I'm running (Help>About Mozilla Firefox). How/where do I check to see which version of the Portable that I'm using? Or is this actually one and the same?

Am I correct in that when I install the FFP, it installs the Firefox application itself and a Portable version/extension/whatever?

I read that it's okay to let Firefox automatically update itself. Which is what I'll do to move from version 1.5.0.6 to 1.5.0.7.

Is it only when I update the Portable application that I need to make a copy of the profile folder?

Just trying to clarify the version of the application components and when/how to update/upgrade which portion. I know that Firefox itself is up to 1.5.0.7 (I received the pop-up notifier), but I see that FFP is still at 1.5.0.6--thus my need to clarify whether we're talking two components that can be two different versions or if they're one and the same.

Firefox Portable does not start with extensions

Submitted by scathe on September 17, 2006 - 11:11am

Portable Firefox works just fine without any extensions. But when I
eventually installed upto 7-8 extensions it ceased to startup on a
different computer. Instead the windows Task Manager shows Firefox.exe
at 9,000KB of Memery usage continuously. Ultimately, I had to move the
extension folders to some other directory and start firefox without
any ext. Then if I install the extensions it works. But it reappears
on a different system and so on.
The extensions I use are following:
1. DownThemAll
2. ScrapBook
3. Google Toolbar
4. IE View
5. Video Downloader
6. Stumble Upon
7. Orkut Scrap Easy

Another instance of Firefox is already running... (FIX?)

Submitted by automatx on September 17, 2006 - 3:43am

"Another instance of Firefox is already running. Please close other instances of Firefox before launching Portable Firefox."

The "FirefoxPortable.ini" file has an entry to allow both "regular" and "portable" FF to run simultaniously, by changing the "AllowMultipleInstances=" to TRUE. This TRUE flag will create this annoying error message in FFP, if I already have a FFP open and try to open a new instance via a windows shortcut. It will complain, that an other firefox is already running, and I should close it first.

If I leave this flag the default "false", then the error is gone in FFP, but suddenly you can not open the regular FF (if FFP is open), because the same error will appear.

FIREFOX GO BYE BYE

Hey

problem:

I stuck my usb drive into my comp at work today and when i tried to run Firefox and Thunderbird portable using pstart (then directly) the .exe file just deletes itself...

The base .exe file in the apps folder is still there but this appears to be a raw version without any portable apps gadgets (or my bookmarks/email for that matter)

Tried copyiong over the .exe files from a friends drive only to have them dissappear again! (tried this like 3 times now...)

any ideas?

FirefoxPortable.exe - Win32/Nuvens.X!Trojan

Submitted by assassindk on September 14, 2006 - 3:05am

I have just started to use Firefox Poatable and it worked great the first day, but now have my workplace updated their AntiVirus program and it finds Win32/Nuvens.X!Trojan in the FirefoxPortable.exe. Have tried dowloading it remotely on my own PC and then transfer the the newly downloaded .exe-file, but the same - same virus. The AV just delete the file and make a popup that it have been removed Sad

Have tried looking the virus up on google, but no results.
