Firefox Portable

Is it safe to use Firefox Sync and sync bookmarks and password to portable firefox? And is it safe to save passwords? I do not want passwords and etc. stored or somehow is accessible at local computer.

I have been running FF portable for years now but have had problems with the most recent updates: Nothing after 6.0.2 will upgrade it always fails and rolls back.

I don't think this is the upgrader specifically (It complains about firefox.exe being locked and can't rename it) as I've run the upgrade manually which I can get complete successfully but FF just crashes then.
I've also tried installing each version from scratch in a new folder and they just crash - all I get is the splash screen.

I am running WinXP with SP3.

Is it right, that Firefox Portable should not set as the Windows default browser, because this settings created a registry key, which won't removed after closing of Firefox Portable?

I am using Firefox Portable with Lastpass (a password manager) installed. I carry it around on a USB key and use it on various public computers. I've noticed that when I plug in the USB and open Firefox, I am still logged in to at least some of the sites I was using the previous time - including Lastpass. This seems to mean that if I forgot my USB somewhere, someone who picked it up could get into my Lastpass account and by extension any other accounts that I have stored on Lastpass.

EDIT - Simply hold the SHIFT key while firefox starts to enter safe mode. Then a window appears to allow disabling of addons. You can also delete bookmarks and login details but this is permanent.

I propose to add
extensions.enabledScopes = 5
to default preferences for new profile.

Purpose is to isolate FirefoxPortable from running environment a bit and load only extensions form user profile or those associated with application.

In practice: this will restrict searching for exts to paths:
{FirefoxPortableDir}\App\Firefox\extensions
{FirefoxPortableDir}\Data\profile\extensions

while excluding exts listed by registry or located in appdata profiles for current and all users.

To be honest I didn't know Firefox recognizes multiple paths for plugin locations (using portable version since like.. forever), until very recently You made this small enchantment to auto-include JavaPortable.

How can I upgrade my existing Firefox Portable "stable/release" to "beta"?

I use FX portable on my PC, it's heavily tweaked and personalized with numerous extensions.

I am curious about building FirefoxPortable from source.

Since I want to use a customized version of Firefox, I want to build it from source.
Now, I've successfully build a version, but it turned out bigger than the offered one. (The patches are small and few, they should not take up significant space.)
I see for example the folder named chrome, which the portable version does not have.
Deleting this makes FF not start.

My question is, what flags do you use when building?
And what do you delete afterwards, etc?

I've managed to make firefox portable work with java portable thanks to some posts in a thread here (https://portableapps.com/node/21946)
But it does leave a lot of crap behind.

My request would be to make firefox clean up after exit the entries java leaves behind like:
