No more FF4 betas?

Submitted by saronno on September 16, 2010 - 1:58am

I noticed that no new versions of Firefox Portable Edition 4.0 Beta have been released after Beta3 on 13 august, while in the mean time Beta4, 5 and 6 have been released from Mozilla.

Is there a particular reason for that or is it just a matter of time or a coincidence?

Obviously I'm not complaining at all; just curious.

Adding Google Voice plugin

Submitted by portablealpha on September 15, 2010 - 8:58pm

Just wanted to let people know how I got the Google Voice plugin to work so that I could use the "Call Phone" feature from within gmail. This is *not* elegant but it's the only way I could figure it out because the target computer is behind some nasty firewalls (and the Google Voice installer isn't allowed to call home to download its files).

1. Install the Google Voice plugin on your home computer.
2. Locate the Google Voice and Video Accelerator plugins in FF using about:plugins.
3. Copy those to your Firefox Portable plugins directory on the flash drive.

Firefox Portable, beta... 5?

Submitted by shanet on September 14, 2010 - 11:01pm

Hey guys,

Ive done something who people might be interested in doing themselves.
I downloaded firefox 4 beta 4 portable edition from here at PA.com
I also went to Mozilla's site and downloaded firefox beta 5.
Then, I ran the portableapps.com installer and the firefox 4 beta 5 installer
Canceled portableapps.com when it wanted to connect to the internet to download the files, and copied the fresh install of beta 5 to the 'app\firefox' directory
Seems to work fine.

Firefox Portable does not start - error at startup

Submitted by Martigan on September 14, 2010 - 4:28am

Hello Mates,

yesterday I was receiving a new USB Stick with a lot of space.
My plan was to put on Firefox Portable to be able to download files on the HP Thin Client at my workplace. The operating system is Windows CE 2.40

I downloaded and installed the program before at home on my Win7 Laptop and it worked properly. Now always when I try to run any app on the Thin Client, there occures following message:

Cannot find 'Firefox Portable' (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all the required libraries are available.

FFP in public libraries, slow! and: sync with FF?

i have a computer at home, and sometimes it's connected to the internet and sometimes not.

for those times without, i tried FFP as found on portableapps, and went to do some internet banking and such in the public library. the start-up is really slow and sometimes the computer hangs... there's not much i can do, i don't have administrative rights on these machines and time is short.
(the computers are fast enough otherwise, i think the anti-virus is on some kind of paranoia mode or removable drives get triple checked or sth.)

ff3.6.9 reporting as 2016

Submitted by ottosykora on September 13, 2010 - 1:26pm

I have still no clue what I did wrong, but my ffp 369 reports sometimes a being a version 2.016 or so.

I have deleted the folder and installed the ff 369 completely fresh, managed to run the installer on one of my computers finally.

But when I click an help/about, the windows which opens still tells me the right version 3.6.9, but at the bottom, after the text mozilla, gecko, there is 2.0.16

In the mozilla addons repository, some addons refuse to install or update, they tell me this addon is not for the version 2016, I have to upgrade the FF itself first.

Nightly Installer failure 404 not found

Submitted by caporion on September 9, 2010 - 11:45pm

Hello,
I downloaded the nightly installer and when I go to install it, I get an error when it tries to download the latest nightly file, a 404 not found error. I tried looking at the source files in the "other" directory to see if I could find the URL it's trying to use but I haven't been successful. Can you look at the installer and see if something needs to be updated? Thanks.
