trouble with media plugins

Submitted by wolf99 on May 12, 2008 - 2:39pm

Hey All
am using FF 2.0.0.14 portable

have trouble trying to play some streaming windows media files, I just get the old WMP9 interface, correct audio but the moving windows logo in place of the visual.

cant install stuff on local PC so cant install the plugin then copy files.

looked at VLC plugin but didn't understand how to install it to my portable FF.

movies work perfect (well sometimes the colours get inverted) in locally installed IE7.

would prefer to get it working via VLC plugin if pos, cos then would have support for embedded DivX as well

thanks for any help

Doesn't seem to want to save passwords

Submitted by offbeatmammal on May 9, 2008 - 10:56pm

FF Portable is running fine, and saves settings such as homepage etc... but doesn't seem to want to save (and auto populate) user/pass details.
When installed locally the userid and password for (say) http://pandorafm.real-ity.com get saved and when I go back they're filled in, but in the portable version though they appear when I start typing they don't get pre-filled. Cookies are obviously getting saved though as the Pandora login details themselves are remembered...
Any thoughts?

Firefox Portable Edition 2.0.0.14 shows splash screen - then nothing...

Submitted by ard_vrk on May 8, 2008 - 9:02pm

I was (and currently am) using 2.0.0.13, which works just fine, without any problems, but was getting annoyed with the periodic and relentless reminders to upgrade to 14, so I did.

I just downloaded the new Firefox, Portable Edition 2.0.0.14 to my desktop and ran the installer. It created a folder on my desktop named FirefoxPortable. Opening the folder, I see the FirefoxPortable.exe executable, and when double-clicked, the splash-screen pops up - and then goes away. Firefox doesn't start.

Search Engine add-ons

Submitted by Rajah Chacko on May 7, 2008 - 12:39pm

I'd like to set up my PortableApps Firefox toolbar to have the same functionality as my desktop version. In particular, I'd like to have Search Engine add-ons including Marketwatch and Wikipedia.

But when I go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:4/cat:80?sort=name , I can click "Add to Firefox" for MarketWatch, but I get this message:

Firefox could not install the search plugin from "https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/downlaods/file/25765/marketwatc..." because an engine with the same name already exists.

Portable Sumatra failes

Submitted by tom_dose on May 6, 2008 - 9:09am

I tried to compile a CD with HTML- and PDF-documents. "portable firefox" should display the HTML-documents. "portable sumatra" should display the PDF-documents. "portable firefox" should start with a local stored page on inserting the CD into the drive. The HTML-pages have links that call the PDF-files.

I installed "portable firefox" as explained at the "portableapps.com" site.

firefox 3 beta is SLOW

Submitted by benma on May 5, 2008 - 1:04pm

Hello. I installed firefox 3 beta (last version) on my PQI Cool Drive U339 Pro 2GB, that i bought 2 years ago, and man - firefox is lagging badly. Version 2.00.14 lagged a bit, but this one is something else.
Anyone knows if there's a way of speeding up firefox 3 beta, instead of buying Corsair Voyager GT?
