FirefoxPortable.exe become so heavy?

Submitted by deedhoet on February 20, 2008 - 2:15am

I've just downloaded FFP 2.0.0.12 and run it. Does I it really become so heavy? I forget my old FFP version (I let it update itself.. ) but it's look like this in my task manager. http://www.divshare.com/download/3834894-bbc
only take less than 6.5 MB total (memory usage + VM size)

Compare to the new FirefoxPortable.exe who take about 40 MB total.

Simple Mail Extension Appears Portable

Submitted by Patrick Patience on February 19, 2008 - 11:09pm

I saw a post on Lifehacker about this Firefox Extension, 'Simple Mail'

The extension is a e-mail client that works right inside of Mozilla Firefox. It supports your regular e-mail protocols, it has a nice interface using Tango icons, features some intuitive search, signature, and it doesn't seem to be missing much in an e-mail client. I tried it out, it worked great for me so far.

Restoring lost settings.

Submitted by PresidentDunn on February 18, 2008 - 10:23pm

After the fourth time this has happened, I have finally made an account to ask about this:
When I update FireFox Portable, I lose all bookmarks, themes, etc. I looked around on these pages, and have found that a directory exists with all my old information. I look and can see all my old bookmarks etc., but the browser isn't reading them. How do I tell FireFox portable where to find these bookmarks and how can I avoid this problem in the future?

Firefox crashes due to the XUL file

Submitted by Voraka on February 17, 2008 - 10:46pm

Hello! I'm using firefox portable from my jumpdrive. It has been working very well so far, but now i tried to use it on my grandfather's laptop and its having some issues. If i open the add-ons, try to download files, or a few other features, i get an error message at the bottom of the screen that says that the XUL.mfl file is corrupted and i should run the chkdisk utility, or something like that. I saw online that deleting the file can solve some issues, so i deleted it. Still i get the error. can anyone help me here? it could really just be the laptop that i'm on.

Useful Links

I think I found 2 useful links:

The first is a Firefox and Thunderbird extension that can protect your profile with a password.I haven't tested it for portability and I think the protection isn't very strong but it may suffice for average stuff.

The second is a Thunderbird extension that lets you brows within Thunderbird. I haven't tested this one either so I don't know what browser it uses.

Anyone tried using chickenfoot extension with Portable FFX?

Submitted by pwright2 on February 16, 2008 - 6:59am

I downloaded the chickenfoot extension and some of the functions work but I can't get it to input anything into a text box. Even from their examples. Maybe another extension is blocking or maybe something to do with Vista. But I haven't gotten anything from their maillist yet so I thought I would ask here.

Paypal plugin

I only use firefox portable. Right now I am using 2.0.0.11. I downloaded and installed the firefox paypal plugin, but it was an exe and I am concerned it installed only for the machine I installed it on, not for firefox portable overall, meaning that when I move to my laptop it won't be there. Is there currently anyway to get this plugin to be portable? I did search the forums and found only references to paypal donations not the plugin.

EDIT: The paypal plugin shows in my add/remove programs list in the control panel on my desktop.

firefox started by association link skips my profile

Submitted by pwright2 on February 15, 2008 - 3:21pm

I use Portable Firefox from portableapps.com. When I start firefox by calling the portablefirefox.exe, it starts just fine calling up everything from my profile. If firefox is already running, clicking a link in an email or document will open another tab in that instance of firefox and, again, all is well.

If firefox is NOT running, clicking on a link in another document will start up firefox but none of my addons are loaded. The bookmarks are there but none of the extensions. It is as if it had skipped my profile.
