My 2¢ on how to get pFF the way you like it.

Submitted by tekjock on December 12, 2005 - 8:09pm

If you like me you and you have a ton of extensions installed starting up FF for the first time is a pain in the but. I'm currently running 40 extensions on my local and portable copies. Im sure some of the following might be common sense or has been said before, im just to damn lazy to search. SO ... here is my 2¢ on how I get my pFF up and running.

:::Extensions:::

For starters to get a easy to use list of all your local installed extensions I suggest using MR Tech's Local Install. MR Tech's Local Install will give you a list of all you extensions, Plugins and Themes that you can view in HTML and there will be links to all your extensions. There are several features of MR Tech's Local Install that are just awesome.

Cannot install extentions

Subj
When i try to install them, they are downloaded and installed as always. It is written, that they would be installed after i restart Firefox. Try to guess, what happens when i restart Firefox. Nothing. "*** will be installed after you restart Firefox". If i try to install the extention again - "*** will be upgraded after you restart Firefox".
what should i do? tnx

Multiple profiles

Yesterday I installed Portable Firefox 1.5 for the first time and it is running well.
Is there a way to have multiple profiles?. I notice there is no profile.ini file in the package so I guess this may not be possible.

Small delays

I'm not sure if this is specific to me, but after I upgraded to Firefox Portable 1.5, I'm getting these small, half-second, delays when I type or use the mouse in Firefox. For example, if I manually type in a URL, when I first click my mouse in the address bar, there will be a small delay and then when I start typing there will be a small delay. Also, when I click to select a bookmark, there will be a delay. It happens sporadically, but enough to be really annoying. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm using Windows XP Home, with 1GB of RAM. I'm also using the Qute theme and I have the following extensions installed:

Intel WiFi Connection

I have Firefox 1.0.6 installed on my USB-Stick.

Actually I use it on 2 Computers.
- The first Computer runs on XP and with an hardwired connection.
- The second one runs on XP home and uses an Intel wireless card.

The last version that worked with the wireless version was 1.0.6.
When I connect both computers hardwired then Firefox runs perfectly (direct connection to internet).
Why are the newer versions not supporting the wireless connection?

Opening files with Portable Firefox

First of all thank you very much for this great application.
Now I use PortableFirefox from HDD as standard windows application and it's pretty nice way to keep everything what I need in one easy-to-copy directory.
The only thing which I couldn't realize is how can I open some html or even mht (I installed the appropriate extension) file with PFF doing this with right-click mouse menu and Open with... option. The default browser is still Internet Explorer. Is it possible to have some command line parameters including filename upon PortableFirefox.exe startup?

Minimize data written to USB Stick when Firefox is closed ?

Submitted by cm64 on December 11, 2005 - 8:24pm

I am running PortableFirefox1.5 on a fairly old USB Memorystick. It works like a dream but when I shut down Firefox it can take up to 45 sec for all write activity to stop. Is there any way of reducing the writes required after Firefox is shutdown ? It becomes a bit of a nuisance when playing around with extensions/themes & having to stop & restart Firefox very often.
